Is it fair to say all these guys have a great chance to go down as the greatest at their position?
Mike Trout - CF
Jose Altuve - 2B
Clayton Kershaw - SP

No. None of them have the potential to be the greatest baseball players of all time at their position.

The only one with any chance what so ever is Trout but realistically he would need to go up to a whole different level to get to a Mantle/Mays level.

Trout absolutely has a chance to be the best center fielder of all time. Hell, he has a chance to be considered the best player in baseball history, period. That’s how good he has been.
Kershaw has a much tougher road to best starting pitcher of all time. Hard to rack up the stats necessary with how much less pitchers throw now.
Altuve doesn’t belong in this discussion yet.

Joe Morgan, Roger Hornsby, and I guess Rose are up there.

Hornsby career .358
Triple crown
Batted .400 3 times.
Nap lajoie batted .400 3 times and won triple crown same year as batted .400. Only person ever.
Also 2nd baseman and way way ahead of current nominees.

Trout will have to up his game a tad right away but it is not at all far fetched.
I saw koufax and spahn and marishal and Carlton and Gibson and Ryan, and Pedro. They are the actual all timers. Kershaw can be in that group. They all had their days.
