I recall around 2009 Albert Pujols being labeled the best player of all time. Look how that worked out.

He fell off hard. Could be greatest 1B if he didn't shite the bed since joining the Angels.
650 hrs,2000 RBI, .300 avg. Thats what his career will look like at the end of this season. Only Babe Ruth and Hank Aaron have those numbers.

Hard to argue since things are so much different nowadays, the variety of pitchers that batters face, different pitches, technology within baseball, player development...all of those greats would have been able to adjust and play at the major league level today because hitting is still timing and pitching is upsetting timing..
I can't see Trout passing all of those players..Altuve.. no..but he will accumulate 3,000+, grab another ring or two..and go down as the GOAT Astro..Kershaw is easily in the top pitchers and the best of his era by far..but don't think he can lead the GOAT list..his back is just too iffy the past two seasons..I hope he can make it through this whole season
ETA: Just went back and looked, Kershaw might have a shot if he can grab some rings (I know, team trophy)..but he has the lowest career ERA & WHIP amongst pitchers with 1,000 innings, of those in the live-ball era..and his hits per 9 innings pitched is second only to Nolan Ryan..

Is Altuve going to maintain 2016/17 levels? Even if he drops back down to 2014/15 levels and averages that for 5 or 6 years he's probably a HOFer but not necessarily in the GOAT conversation

Altuve has under 1300 career hits. It might be a biiit premature to just put him down for 3K.

To be fair, he was really 35.
And Pujols is still in discussion for best 1B ever... it's basically between him, Lou Gehrig, and Jimmie Fox. Unless you count Stan Musial, but he was primarily an outfielder.

I get these stats are amazing, but do you really think anyone would be able to bat .400 in today's game? Comparing the game from the early 1900s to now is becoming apples and oranges.

I don't know if its premature, the consistency of his approach at the plate is why I think he will end up doing it..his size requires pitchers to throw to him and he doesn't walk or strike out much..He puts the ball in play.
If he decides to play until he's 40 he would have to average 175 per season for 10 more seasons and he is more than likely going to grab at least another 3-4 200-Hit seasons assuming he starts to decline at 32..Biggio played until he was 41 and Altuve is a much better hitter than Biggio ever was..

Trout will definitely go down as one of the best. I think Correa has a chance to be in the conversation for GOAT SS when all is said and done
