Why would CNN and the NYT get to have an opinion at all?

It's really pathetic. Apparently I'm only supposed to care that Sinclair is responsible for making local news networks report *only* good news about President Trump. Lucky for me I just read stuff so it doesn't bother me, but talking about the stuff most other major networks WON'T talk about evens it out for me. Or the simple act of "Don't like it, don't watch".

Sad think is that you actually DO think it's awesome. For what reason, I don't know... other than to satisfy your curiosity and give y'all talking points to try and take down someone. Because... Hannity had a lawyer. WHO CARES?

Did the NYT or CNN disclose that before reporting on it?

I've heard that is imperative and ALWAYS happens.

Robert Balin, representing a consortium of news agencies, arguing before Judge Wood:

quote:

There is no credible claim that this client`s mere identity is attorney-client privileged information. Michael Cohen makes the argument that it would be embarrassing to be associated with what he terms a raid at a house, in a home. Your Honor, I hardly need to remind the court of the intense public interest in the issues that are currently before this court. I look around and I see that every other seat is occupied by a member of the press.

Ultimately, however your honor rules, the public is going to want to know the basis for your honor`s ruling. That`s the very nature of the First Amendment access right, so that we the people and the press can monitor our institutions and have a rational basis for agreeing or disagreeing. And I hesitate to add, your honor, that I suspect, no matter how you rule, those in the public will agree or disagree. That`s what we do in society.

Finally, your honor, I would make one last point. It was Justice Burger who I think put it well. "People in our open society do not demand infallibility from their institutions, but it is difficult for them to accept what they are prohibited from observing". That was in Winston newspapers v. Virginia many years ago.

Your honor, I see no basis for denying public access. If your honor is going to order disclosure of this name, I see no basis for denying public access to that name.

Wonder if he knew it was Hannity just through his associations and was arguing for this to help his other media clients, rather than as an important part of the case.

Can't expect he'd know that. The media organizations employ these guys to advocate regularly for openness to promote more openness from the courts (and it sells papers ). I bet that Warren Burger line is part of his regular schpiel.

It doesn’t matter if all news outlets would have requested it. Wood was going to release the name.

What confuses me the most is when the lawyers said they had talked to the 3rd client and it would be to embarrassing for the third client.

Hannity already knew there was a chance his name might be released. He had time on his radio show to announce it was him, but he didn’t.

I think Cohen’s lawyers told him his name wouldn’t be released. Then threw him under the bus.

Hannity got screwed by Cohen’s lawyers. Instead of talking about Cohen the major news was about Hannity.

the whole thing sound stupid

Hannity has 8 lawyers...

Cohen isn't one of them...

only having 3 clients is weird to me... I guess trump pays him plenty.

bottom line, I believe Hannity over the press any day of the week until proven otherwise...this is more of the same crap they spin out of nowhere...
