Mahindra, the Indian manufacturing company known for its tractors, utility, and other vehicles, has just revealed a new side-by-side off-roader called the Roxor. Modeled after the original Willys Jeep, it features a four-cylinder turbodiesel engine, a five-speed manual transmission, leaf springs, live axles, and a steel body on a boxed steel frame.

Weight comes in at a hefty 3085 pounds, and that diesel engine is said to make just 62 horsepower and 144 lb.-ft. of torque. Of course, while you'll be able to buy the Roxor here in America, it won't be legal for the road. The Roxor features virtually no safety equipment aside from a roll cage, and top speed is just 45 mph.

I owned a 1970 CJ5 with a stock 4 cylinder pumping out 75 horsepower. Jeeps were a different machine back in those days. It had NO safety features. No roll bar. Seat belts provided at purchase for the owner to install if he chose to.

Needs to weigh just about half that. Sounds good otherwise.

Wick, we ran these as demos a few months back. Terrible terrible terrible.

Bulletproof. But underpowered garbage.

A 20 year old Suzuki sidekick is a better buy. 100hp. Overbuilt driveline. Motor likes to rev.

Old nostalgic men with money will use these like golf carts.

What are they trying to get for these things anyway?

That thing look so much like a jeep I wonder if they had to have an agreement with Chrysler. Maybe being not street legal was one of chrysler's stipulations.

They bought the license to produce Willys and CJs before Chrysler was in the picture.

I want one, but can't justify it over a Polaris Ranger.

Actually, the top speed wouldn't bother me. If it weighed anywhere from 1500-1800 lbs like it should, I bet it would be a nice little off road machine. Even with the 65 hp engine. Absolutely no reason for it to be 3000 lbs.

3000 pounds would be fine with a 400hp V8

At $16K, why not find a old CJ7 and fix it up for offroading.

Oh absolutely. I don’t plan on buying one, but I like that it exists. If that makes any sense at all.
