He said something along the lines of "LSU who do you think you are going to hire? You aren't a blueblood and have always been in the top 15 to 20. Be happy with that because history says you can't do better."

He actually said LSU was sleeping giant prior to Saban, a great place to live, great place to play football, LSU was an elite job, but that it prior to Saban is was a tough place to win.

Today's kids are so pessimistic as fans and full of bile. They stayed in the parents homes to long and their own brains turned on themselves. Sad state of affairs for American business if these guys are taking over. I don't see success following them unless they are maybe gaming the system or something. At least they have a voice now though behind the screen. In my day they would have just got their asses kicked everyday.

Goldrush25... I see your point. But he has been an OC before, he has a wealth of experience, and more importantly he's been on this offensive staff for a few years and was the interim OC for LSU in the SEC with some of the same staff. Its not completely insane to consider him.

That's why I made it a point to say "good experience."

People with exceptional talent for coaching should expect to improve the longer they do it. I don't think we saw that with Ensminger.

One could argue his inability or lack of desire to secure another long term OC job before now demonstrates that maybe even he knows he doesn't have the skill set to excel at that position, and why he had to be coaxed into taking the job.

Still don’t see how his age is relevant. Coaches can age & still stick with the times.

It’s the combination of his age and not being an OC for 20 years oh and him not really wanting the job. If he had been a successful OC for most of the last 20 years it would be one thing, but how many people suddenly become innovative at 60?
Also different situations matter. When Les hired Chavis, it’s what was needed, an established successful coach to stabilize the defense, but toward the end I think it was getting a little stale and bringing in an innovative younger guy like Aranda was a great move (I know Steele was in between). Given the offense has been stagnant for so long, I’d much rather see a young, ambitious coach, with maybe some new ideas than a career assistant that had to be talked into the job.

Typical bullshite O-pumper “argument”. You have absolutely nothing of any substance to use in defense of O so you lash out at those damn kids!

Yeah we should be more like your generation.

Ed Orgeron is the subprime mortgage of coaches.

I made that up just to mock your fricking generation for ruining the economy but it’s so fricking true.

So we can't try to get better because "we have to know our place" and we "aren't one of the big boys?" So fricking stupid.

That's what the NegaTigers think! Sounds like every Anti-O comment on the Rant

Well he has a point. The “big boys” don’t fire the most successful coach in their history and replace him with the worst coach in Ole Mis’ history.

Well he said it immediately after we fired Miles, a whole 2 months before Orgeron unfortunately got the job. Our hopes were on Jimbo and Herman so at the time it was a bitch comment to make IMO.

Maybe he knew we were prone to make a horrendous hire. Like I said, we didn't exactly prove him wrong.

I willing to give the man this coming year and then the 19' recruiting cycle. If he shits the bed with both then so be it!!

Do you have any proof of this comment? Being critical of firing Miles is one thing, I need proof he said something derogatory towards LSU. The media was largely critical of UGA for firing Richt because, like Miles, he was winning, though the way UGA handled things made it a moot point very rapidly.

Les Miles' potential firing by LSU heavily criticized by ESPN's 'College GameDay'

quote:

"You don't want your athletic director going out there and responding to every rumor, but this particular situation with Les Miles has gotten so out of hand that it's been really disgraceful for as much success as he's had in Baton Rouge, the way it's been handled. If you wanna fire him, fire him. All of us serve at the pleasure of our employer."

I guess it what he said here.

I think he heard this interview and turned it into what he wanted to hear. Rece praises the LSU job but says it was tough before Saban got here and it will be tought for whoever replaces him.
