Anyone notice the bridge practically breaks right were the works were on top. I wonder what they were doing.

That school bus on the right. Could have been a lot worse.

It would have been beyond horrible and the garbage that would spew from the conspiracy nuts would be disgusting

FIU article pushes aluma Leonor Flores as an inspirational (for girls) example of a women going into STEM because she was involved with the project.

Bridge collapses and kills people, now the woman had nothing to do with it.

THEN:

quote:

Twelve-year-old Michelle Flores shared a special moment with her family at FIU this past Saturday: She and her sister Gabriela joined their parents, FIU alumni Leonor and Henry Flores MIS ’01, to watch a 950-ton section of a pedestrian bridge swing into its permanent position across Southwest 8th Street.

Leonor Flores ’98 is a project executive and one of 63 FIU alumni who work for MCM, the construction firm building the FIU-Sweetwater UniversityCity Bridge, which will further connect FIU and its northerly neighbor, the City of Sweetwater. She was excited to share her work with her family, especially Michelle, who is interested in STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) in school.

NOW:

quote:

UPDATE, March 16, 2018, 11 a.m.: To clarify, Leonor Flores did not work on the FIU-Sweetwater UniversityCity Bridge project in any capacity.

FIU article reverses course HAM, now Lenor Flores had nothing to do with bridge

Anyone else think of this when you heard about the collapse?

It's just impossible for me to wrap my brain around the fact they were testing the bridge with people under it.

The level of stupid there boggles the mind.

The bridge dropped so fast that dude was suspended in mid air for a second.

And yet Galileo would have you believe the dude’s feet should have been in constant contact with the span as it went down.

Proof that Galileo is Fake News.

Two commons sense points that you don’t have to be an engineer to have prevented this tragedy:

1. Detour traffic from the construction site.
2. Don’t remove the center crane until the center support is installed and cabling is in place.

With these measures in place, nothing happens.

That’s crazy! I didn’t see him until I read your post. Watched video 4 more times, amazing how fast the bridge left under his feet

Slow it down and look at the video in slow motion. It appears that he may have been wearing a safety harness or something. Looks like something is ripped off of him he falls and then the other items falls.

Tied off to what, the bridge?

Don’t think that would have helped.

Munilla Construction Management built the bridge.

I guess being a minority-owned firm is helpful in getting government contracts to build things.

You don't have to be the low bid if you are a WIMBY firm.
