I caught this last night for the first time in a while and forgot how good it is.
Everyone in this movie is great, especially Ruffalo and Gyllenhall. Downy is great as well.
Has the classic Fincher look to it, case is fascinating to follow.
This might be my favorite Fincher movie behind Seven.

Where do you place it in the Fincher canon?

It is one of the greatest films ever made, and it took me awhile to realize the film was about the obsession of the search for Zodiac, not about Zodiac himself. It's a near perfect film, and I'd put it at the top of Fincher's impressive catalog.

Its a great movie, and you are right, its not about the case but about the obsession and hold this guy had on people's lives trying to find him.

big fan of Gyllenhall and this movie, you should try nightcrawler also

Its one of Fincher's best, maybe number one. Also one of the best crime thrillers of the past 20 years.

Incredible movie. One of the more unexpectedly terrifying movies I've seen.

It's better than Seven and Gone Girl.
But I'd put it at #2 behind The Game. The Game is just a perfectly taut thriller. Zodiac is a great piece of film-making but it drags a little (as mentioned the obsession of finding an off-screen killer mostly - becomes a little over-bearing...but the movie is about obsession and not a Silence of the Lambs.)
1. The Game
2. Zodiac
3. Fight Club
4. Seven
5. Social Network

who knew Roger Rabbitt was so creepy?

The basement scene is maybe the most uncomfortable I've been watching a movie.

Roger Ebert put it best when he called it the “All the Presidents Men of serial killer movies.” It’s damn near perfect.

Best Fincher film. No debate.
The 3 hours flies by.

One of my favorite movies of all time.

I just watched Seven the other night and Zodiac is better. Once you've seen Seven and know how it comes out it's an average movie, Zodiac is great on rewatch every time.

1. Social Network
2. Seven
3. Zodiac
4. Fight Club
5. Curious Case of Benjamin Button
Social Network is possibly my #1 since the turn of the century. Such a perfect film.
I used to have The Game up there but watched it again a couple of years ago and it really hasn’t aged well imo. Nothing Penn does makes much sense at all. It’s pretty absurd and while I still enjoy it, I put Button on the list as it still gets me pretty emotional every time.
If Fincher would keep adding to his filmography he could challenge the director’s top 5s list from the Spielberg thread. That’s a damn strong list but too heavy and doesn’t really have much else.
