They would have never named their church Methodist and would have named themselves by one of the only 2 names the Bible ever named a Church, namely churches of God or churches of Christ.

strikes me as an odd thing to get hung up on

Paul was hung up on it too.

1st Corinthians 1:10-15

Now I beseech you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that ye all speak the same thing, and that there be no divisions among you; but that ye be perfectly joined together in the same mind and in the same judgment.

Now this I say, that every one of you says, I am of Paul; and I of Apollos; and I of Cephas; and I of Christ. I thank God that I baptized none of you, but Crispus and Gaius
Lest any should say that I had baptized in mine own name.

Is Christ divided? was Paul crucified for you? or were ye baptized in the name of Paul?

Yes, I do. I've told you through my prophets and my written word, yet you build up wrath for yourselves.

Unfortunately you wont feel the same on Judgment day.

If you follow the following advice you will no longer remain in darkness and will leave the Methodist church.

2 Timothy 2:15
Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

If you ignore the tradition of what you have been taught and read/study the scriptures, God will lead you out of the error denominations.

Wow. You are the reason the Christian Churches get a bad name. Are you of the tongue speakers or the no music folks?

Anybody want to take a guess on how many heads would explode if we means-tested any other Constitutional right?

I live just outside a town with a fairly high profile Church of Christ College (at least for Arkansas standards) and they are very conservative.

I always thought the Methodist Churches around here were very liberal, kind of in response to the conservatism of the C of C. Not so apparently.

In the immortal words of Don Williams:

I don't believe that heaven waits, for only those who congregate.

I don't find a church that speaks to me these days. I was raised Baptist, but I disagree with a lot of the church doctrine, so I don't go. Methodist is leftist to me. Church of Christ is very clannish, at least around here, but are probably closer to my politics. The antics in Pentecostal churches creep me out, and the non-denominational churches are too new age, try too hard to be edgy, and tend to preach the prosperity gospel, in my experience.

I'll just keep my faith, and leave religion to the religious.

The main point of Jesus' teaching was love one another as God loves you.

Start there if you're a Christian. It's a tough one, no doubt.

The so called Christian churches get a bad these days for two reasons.

1st) The members don't full fill the meaning of Christian (Christ Like)

2nd) They have splintered in to many itching ear faiths and divided the body of Christ.

The answer to the last half of your question is...

No I do not believe in speaking of tongues or any other miraculous gifts of the Holy Spirit.

These gifts were only poured out twice according to scripture.
1st) At Pentecost
2nd) On Cornelius

Every other time miraculous gifts of the spirit were given required the laying on of the Apostles hands.

For the final part of your question about musical instruments, I will refer you to the famous Methodist Commentator Adam Clark, who when referring to something the Great Baptist preacher and writer Charles Spurgeon said...

I have no problem with instruments of music as long as they are neither seen nor heard. Clark added I agree but it would be even wiser to save the expense.

Excuse me for butting in, but people who use the OT against Christians, suck. There is a reason Jesus was needed to save mankind, thus the New Testament.

Jesus both told his Apostles to arm themselves and to not use arms on occasion.

The UMC, The PCUSA, the ELCA, the UCC, the ABC, the Episcopalians, and the rest of the WCC have been run by the antichrist for some time now....

The Methodist church - and the rest of that list - is where you go if you want to have a church membership card for social purposes without dealing with that Jesus fellow.
