He’s 15, talk to him. Be honest and show your cards and emotions. Fatherhood doesn’t always mean laying down the law. Explain what your concerns are and what you have observed when he plays too much. A 15 year old should be capable of understanding and recognizing what you are describing.

So his school work is fine but you need him to not play as much why?
Because it’s something that I didn’t have so it’s stupid and I hate it!

He would play this fortnite game all the time if we didn't limit.
I'm dealing with this, I took mine fishing Saturday to get him out of the house.
The boat broke down and he didn't catch any so I doubt it was enjoyable

Kids don't ride bikes and play outside these days, it's all different than when we grew up...phones and video games are taking our children down a dark path...particularly the boys.
BS. Put your foot down and limit time on the game. Tell him for every hour on the game, he has to play outside for two hours.
You are the dad, just man up and stop trying to be the nice guy. Kids expect to be ruled. That is how they learn. Now get off your arse and go outside with him.

Grow a pair and make them play outside. The lazy parents are the reason kids are addicted to all that crap these days.

You’ve come to the right place, Nancy.

Right now it's likely the only thing he does for fun. So if you tell him to just do something else, he's going to be "like what?"
If you as a parent really want him to do something more constructive or outdoorsy, you have to do it with him. Some of the other suggestions here are good ideas.
That's the catch here: to get your son involved elsewhere, you have to put the smartphone down too.
t. Video game nut all my life and had parents just like you, and am now a father myself.

WTF? He pushes back? You’re the father. Act like it.
He pushes back?
Put that motherfricker in his place and let him know you’re the parent and he’s the child. He does what he’s told to do.
He pushes back?
This is the biggest problem you have. Your wife too since she wants you to be more assertive. Quit being such a pussy and make him stop playing when YOU say stop. Be the head of the household and discipline your kid. He needs it, your wife wants it, and you are obligated to do it.

You have understand that your son is simply trying to build walls in order to protect himself from others trying to hurt him.
Every other person in his peer group, like him, is simply trying to survive until the end. Let your son forage for the materials he needs to get there.

It really is sad. My friend is a pediatrician and he calls gaming consoles "gaystations" because all the kids he sees where the parents let them play video games, the kids eventually turn gay

OP ... if he isn’t dropping tilted towers every match and is dropping relatively safe locations then you need to worry. Report back.

At least he isn't one of those weird kids that looks at an iPad in a restaurant. When I see one of those dorks I usually complain to management

DO NOT bend over backwards to be a friend to your son. He has friends for that. THEY will not be a Father for him. Make the decisions you think are important and follow through.

Sounds like he has too much time on his hands.
Need a kid/teenager to either be playing a sport every season of the year or be in some kind of extracaricular at all times. That or he needs to get a job. Sitting around playing games every day after school and on weekends can’t be an option.

On the 5 minutes issue, I try to let him finish the game he started instead making him stop immediately...
I went to bed...it was 10:55
Then the wife comes upstairs and gets on him and then wakes me to lay into me about being tougher.
I asked him what happened to the 5 minutes?
He said "we stayed alive, I didn't start a new game"
He's on school break the next 2 weeks... my wife works tomorrow.
I was ticked I was taking the flack from my wife over this.
Believe me, I can grow plenty of balls when I need to, but its not a pretty when I get mad.
I guess my problem is about being consistent .
I'm not perfect, I try to let my son have some room to make mistakes...
But we're concerned because his personality is to not get out of his comfort zone and try other things.
He loves golf...but this has many challenges to provide the apportunities...
He plays for school team, the season just started...like I said the weather has been a problem
