As a parent, We're trying figure out how to help our son...
He would play this fortnite game all the time if we didn't limit.
But its a struggle to get him to do other things. He pushes back...and it's hard not to be the nag...
Anyone else dealing with this issue?
Kids don't ride bikes and play outside these days, it's all different than when we grew up...phones and video games are taking our children down a dark path...particularly the boys.

People out here dealing with opioid addiction and you can’t take away an Xbox?

Just break the game console

I play games often and I’m not socially awkward, on a dark path, a virgin, or weird.

I played games all the time as a kid. My parents were concerned too.
Not everyone turns out to be a piece of shite. For most people, it's just called being a kid.

I've considered many things such as destroying it or taking it away.
He makes good grades, I have to have a good reason to break it...or just take it away.
I need to control the amount of time he's on
I just know he's too much into it...
His "5 more minutes" is really 30.

Limit his game time per day.

So his school work is fine but you need him to not play as much why?

Go outside and toss the pigskin around with him
Take him fishing
Go hike Clark’s creek together
Make him join a sports team
Make him mow the yard

Fort nite is a very ‘addicting’ game meaning it’s a lot of fun and many people are playing it nowadays. It’s a trend sort of like ‘Pokémon go’ .
My advice: Take a family vacation to the mountains or go camping more often. Try to plan some trips that really show off the outdoors just to get the kid away from the game.

Does he do any extra-curriculars? Sports?
My some is always on the ipad or Xbox gaming with his friends through a headset. Some of them do not do anything else.
I make sure my son is involved in other things. I don't sweat the gaming too much. We make him do his chores, homework, extra-curricular commitments...... After that, his time is his own.

How many years ago was this?
The games today I think are more addictive?
I don't know...
My wife and I fight about what to do...
She is on me to more assertive.
I don't want to control everything in his life...hes 15...
This isn't easy...
Every child is different.
Our son struggles trying new things... once he is comfortable he sticks...
This is about personal development and growing

Same. I wonder if OP has ever tried to play any video games with his son. Not everyone likes sports or the outdoors, and there's nothing wrong with that.

I just bought my kid a nook this year, he's 13.
We kept him off video games until he was 10...it's just something to kill time, he plays nerf guns, mtn bike rides with me, and writes music. If his grades slip, we kick him out of the game room...he gets it all taken away.
He moped when he was grounded a bit, but he knows his responsibility is trash, his bathroom, his laundry and odd jobs like washing the cars.
Eta: the kid also "runs" for fun...he's done about 10 5ks, and a couple mud runs...takes the dog for a 1/2-mile jog every other day

Try introducing him to something new instead. Just try to break up the "addiction" even though it may not be an addiction but more of a phase.

Destroying the Xbox is not my idea...just admittibg I've thought about it.
Our son can check out sometimes
Too much gaming impacts his heart.../ attitude...we see it, very real...
Half the battle is all his friends are online too.
