I mean if he has other hobbies, is playing with his friends online, and isn't suffering at school then this is probably just a teenager being a teenager.

It sounds like he makes good grades, has other hobbies, and half his friends play online too. I'm not sure what the problem is. Maybe you just need to accept that the world has changed since you were a kid?

Makes good grades but you’re thinking about destroying his Xbox??? I think many would agree that would elicit a bad response maybe grade wise in spite.

The freemium thing and MMROP has changed everything.
In my day we may binge a weekend on a game then it ended. Now one game lasts forever.
I was playing Skyrim then saw I had $100 hours on it. I packed the 360 up and haven't touched a console since.

Go shoot some hoops WITH your son instead of telling him to go do something else.

I agree it is addictive. Transfer that addiction into something beneficial. Get him into programming or something. “Hey, learn these 10 problems and you can play 20 minutes.”’

Worse comes to worse, my dad knew how to pick locks and he’d just lock all electronics and fun stuff and the key in the computer room and My sister and I would be screwed

Honestly, this doesn't sound like it's all that bad. Once he's 16 and he has more freedom he will go out more. The danger is if has done nothing to deserve any punishment, it can strain your relationship.

This is your fault. You let it become 30 minutes.

He makes good grades, I have to have a good reason to break it...or just take it away.
Good lord, be a parent, not a doormat. Simply tell him you do not want him playing it as much as he does. Follow through with the limits you set.

I can't believe you're this weak.

How many years ago was this?

The games today I think are more addictive?

False. I was in high school during peak Call of Duty popularity and spent literally 100+ hours/wk playing it at times when I was in the offseason for sports. It was just as “addicting” as any game out right now.

Fast forward 10 years and I don’t even play video games any more while a lot of my friends play for 5 hours a day. I’m well adjusted, have a good relationship, have a good job, exercise a lot and have a lot of diverse hobbies, and have good friends. Oh yea, and I don’t fricking hate my dad because he broke my Xbox during the one phase of my life that I was able to be a kid and waste a frick ton of time playing video games.

Let your kid do what makes him happy in his free time, and like others said, put him in sports and other extracurriculars to limit that free time to a healthy amount. If your kid has 18 hours a day to waste on video games, then that’s a parenting problem at this point in his life, not him.

Kids don't ride bikes and play outside these days, it's all different than when we grew up...phones and video games are taking our children down a dark path...particularly the boys.

Yes they do. They can do both. Your kid is just asocial. That's not technology's fault. You should've raised your kid to be more social around friends.

thats just how the game works, as long as he isnt starting a new game after he says 5 more minutes and is just finishing the one he already started thats pretty much all u can ask.

kids are gonna do what their friends do. if his friends arent out riding bikes or playing wiffleball and instead are all on fortnite, thats probably what he's gonna be doing

most of the game is more about voice chatting with ur buddies than the actual game

I grew up in the birth of home game systems with my first Nintendo in the late 80's around 88'.

We then had every system that updated from Super NES to Game Boy color, Sega, Nintendo 64, etc.. But, we also played a lot of fricking sports. I had two other brothers and we loved to play outdoors, organized sports, ride bikes, etc... but we also played a shite ton of games.

What is different today that wasnt the same back then? Find that answer. I dont know why personally. It is strange to see summers come and not see kids in my old stomping grounds out playing basketball, baseball, football and riding bikes etc. We use to have 20 fricking baws out riding back during my childhood arouns the neighborhood doing all sorts of shite. This was an affluent middle class neighborhood also.

shite has changed dramatically.

Little bastards like you are the reason I can't get my K/D ratio over 2.0 in any FPS I play.

Be a little more specific than that. What exactly do you mean by this and why do you believe it to be so?
