They both look like they have down syndrome. Maybe their beers are retarded good.

Toppling Goliath moved to Missouri? Seriously though between side project perennial and shared Missouri pumping out whales.

What brewery and according to whom is it the best in the US?

Edit: I see you're referring to Side Project Brewing (whose website is pretty good), but I still don't know where you're getting this claim of "best in the US."

They are referring to Side Project.

I just don't think a brewery that does one style of beer can be the best in the country.

I rank Block 15 and Great Notion as the best breweries in Oregon, even though there are breweries that may do some styles better than them, they rank near the top of the class in sours, stouts, IPAs, and others that I don't drink as much of.

The other contenders would be Breakside and pFriem. De Garde and Ale Apothecary do fantastic stuff, but only American Wilds.

I say this because my criteria is this: If I could only drink beers from one brewery for the rest of my life, which brewery would it be?

Also, I think the person who said that was looking at Untappd's average beer rankings. When you only do one style (and it's barrel aged), then it's easier to have higher rankings. If you have a balanced beer portfolio, some of your beers will bring you down. For example, the people that come in to try Block 15's IPAs, may try their Kolsch, and give it poor marks even if it is a world class beer. A great Kolsch or altbier is not going to score as high as a great BBA Stout.

Side Project is very, very good. I don't know if I would rank it the "best," but I haven't drank a lot of the others that are considered the "best" such as Alchemist or Hill Farmstead.

Ok making the most sought after ba stouts in the world or what is seen as the best barleywine ever created coupled with an amazing sour program? Not to mention all the stuff they are brewing through shared.... side project is def top 3.
In no order
-side project
-toppling Goliath
-hill farmstead

The veil is nipping at their heels

Well I can get my hands on Alchemist, Tree House, Trillium, and HFS. Sounds like a trade needs to be put together.

I don't have one state that I prefer over the other, but I've been fortunate to have close connections with some of the well-known states.

- Lived in Vermont for several years growing up, so I'm out there a couple times each year and I have friends that are willing to send me packages.

- My parents have a place on the Cape, so I'm able to get plenty of beer in Boston before hopping on the ferry to P-Town. Wish I had a more-consistent Treehouse connection, but my Boston friends don't make it out to Charlton more than once every couple months.

- My parents live in Brooklyn, which is good for the breweries there and in Queens.

- I'm in San Francisco every month for work. Once every few months, I'll find myself seeing a client in Los Angeles and will try to get to Monkish.

- Currently live in Chicago, which is seeing an "beer explosion" of sorts.

- Went to school at Wisconsin. I don't get up to Madison more than once every few months, but my girlfriend is nice enough to bring plenty back when she goes to see her parents.

It really is a pain in the arse to get to. I’ve personally only made the trip once and it’s because I was driving to CT for a wedding.

It doesn’t help that they typically do can releases on a weekday too.

We're not up there with the heavyweights, but Georgia has some great craft beer options.

Just about everyone knows about Sweetwater and Terrapin. Creature Comforts, Orpheus, Red Hare, Jailhouse, Monday Night, Red Brick, and Wild Heaven all make excellent beers.

Georgia has over 50 craft breweries now and they put out some damned good stuff.

I'm biased obviously, but Georgia is above average and probably 2nd or 3rd in the South. You didn't even include Scofflaw, which gets high praise as one of the top new IPA powerhouses in the country. Ratebeer has it in the top 10 for new breweries since mid 2016 or so.

I think we're a little top heavy, as Sweetwater, Terrapin, Creature Comforts and Scofflaw are far better than Red Hare and Red Brick and the like, but 4 breweries of that quality would be exceptional for any state outside of the elite tier.

Atlanta -Athens does very well in comparison to similar cities, IMO (Dallas, for example, which was pretty slow to catch up with the rest of the country).

The brother of a guy I know just opened a brewery in KC that is getting rave reviews. Forget the name of it though. He's supposed to be sending me some.

BKS Artisan Ales is the name of it.

Thrillist best beer states

Nearly 300 breweries in Oregon. Most of them are not that good, but you can say that about any state's breweries.

348 open breweries in CO, 70 under construction. A fair amount of bad ones aswell.

I agree with you that Portland’s beer culture is much more engrained than Denver’s. As much as I love Denver’s beer scene, I’d say some of the state’s best are outside of the city (Weldwerks, Avery, Outer Range, Casey, New Image). That being said I’m pretty confident in saying that Denver’s river north district, home to about 20 breweries, has to be one of the better beer scenes in the country. Notable mentions outside of that area in Denver are Black Project, Cerebral, and Comrade. Melvin opening a brewery soonish will be the icing on the cake for me.

Really cool time to be in either state honestly. Nationwide, I really like the beer I’m getting out of North Carolina, Vermont, and Texas.

Ditto for Oregon. Block 15, De Garde, Boneyard, Barley Brown's, pFriem, Fort George, etc... If you gave me choice of whether to take all of the Portland breweries, or all of the non-Portland breweries, I would take non-Portland, all day. I think the same would apply in Colorado.

Now the advantage of the Portland breweries is that I can get the non-Portland beers in the taprooms, and can hit all the breweries I want in a much shorter time period. But just from a beer standpoint, I would rather drink the non-Portland beers.

Breweries per state. Just quantity, not based on quality.
