Say we raised smoking, voting, guns, (kept alcohol) all to 21 years old. However, all military would be full citizens and could do all the above the minute they joined the military. Would you be ok with that?

This sounds like age discrimination

21 as the drinking age is still enforced even in countries in which the drinking age is lower (20 in Korea, 16 in Germany, etc.)

Nope. I don't like the idea of taking away the rights of citizens and then using them as bargaining chips to get them to join the military. Sounds remarkably like Starship Troopers (Heinlein's mediocre book series, not the campy cult classic movie).

Yep. You're either an adult, or you're not. If you can be tried as an adult, you should be able to buy a gun and drink.

Unfrickingbelivable some of you nanny state pussies are. Let’s further restrict individual liberties and only award them if they swear loyalty to the state through military service.

Great idea. How old are you? I don’t think you’re old enough to vote yet based on this post.

I don't know if you realize how low you're driving that number if the ability to be tried in criminal court as an adult is your benchmark

Ok, if you're old enough to be trusted with a $9 million tank, then you should be able to drink and buy a gun.

When I was in the military, my LA license was suspended for an FTA over a non moving violation. I always found it humorous that the military trusted me to operate million dollar war equipment, but the state of LA didn’t want me driving my truck

He mentioned voting already but what's your deal with driving? You don't need to be an adult to drive.

Absofrickinglutely not.

What’s so magical about 21? Why not 31? I’ve met some immature as frick 30 year olds.

I think your idea is ridiculous but if we’re going to start using age as an arbitrary discriminator it should be 25. Science tells us that the brain isn’t fully developed until you’re 25 so why are we letting anyone younger than that vote in the first place?

I wouldn't like it, but its a better deal than a flat 21 year old restriction for those items.

I respect our military members 110%. I don't mind allowing those who risk their lives to keep us free a few years off various restrictions.

I'm not even ok with the drinking age being as high as 21.
Why would you think I'd be ok with raising the age for purchasing weapons?

18 is the age at which one becomes a consenting adult capable of making their own decisions.

18 should be the age at which all rights, privileges, duties, and responsibilities are conferred in full.

18 year olds are no longer adults and have no business voting. Id be perfectly fine with moving the voting age to 21
