Anthony Jennings and company almost did in 14. This squad will be better.

Aranda said he was the best D lineman last year. That's enough for me.

Me either, but I'm rock hard thinking about it after Aranda and Pete Jenkins said he was the best defensive lineman on the team last year, which included the Lawrence, Alexander, and Shelvin.

They also said he was unblockable in practice at times.

Normally I don't get my panties in a tizzy over meaningless coach speak from practice, but those two coaches aren't known to embellish much.

Add Shelvin to that mix. Our front seven should be very stout next year.

For the first time in a long time it's the secondary we need to be concerned about. That sounds crazy to say.

From Dellenger's article on our D-line:

quote:

Number of LSU D-linemen in spring: 11

Before we begin writing specifics about some of these guys, let's list them all. As you'll notice, the list includes LSU's B-outside linebacker position, a hybrid edge rusher spot:
•Jr. Rashard Lawrence (DE)
•Jr. Breiden Fehoko (DE)
•Jr. Travez Moore (B-OLB)
•Jr. Ed Alexander (NG)
•RSo. Glen Logan (DE/NG)
•So. K'Lavon Chaisson (B-OLB)
•So. Neil Farrell (DE)
•RSo. Andre Anthony (B-OLB)
•RFr. Tyler Shelvin (NG)
•RFr. Justin Thomas (DE)
•Fr. Davin Cotton (DE)

quote:

Another seven linemen and edge rushers will arrive this summer as part of the 2018 class, pushing the number to a whopping 18. At times last season, the Tigers had six healthy scholarship linemen, and that's including the B-OLB position.

Not a single senior in the group. We can expect a couple to declare after this season, but we are in pretty good shape.

Thats a big line.
Alexander has to eat up 2 blocks or our lb corp has to be really good about shedding blocks.
we are gonna need to see lawrence and fehoko establish themselves as a legit passing game disrupters. their sacks dont have to be off the charts but they have to make qbs move in the pocket and be uncomfortable.
i think they are up for the challenge.

The defense is not, and never has been, the concern about this team and/or program. They will be stought AF. The question is whether or not the offense can put points on the board and if the HC can get out of his own way.

The defense is going to be very very good next year. That I’m absolutely sure of. CB will be shallow but barring injury it’s still an above average group. Just have to stay healthy, Fulton being eligible and ready to play would be a nice suprise.

I'm not disagreeing that they should be good, but does having an unproven D-line coach give you any pause at all? Has DJ ever even coached D-line before? I honestly don't know.

Is Andre Anthony going to play this year? Really want to see this kid on the field.

i think with the line being so good this year and with devin white flying up the middle i think the dbs are going to have alot of turnovers this year

Lawrence and Big Ed were arguably our best two DL coming into 2017 as sophomores. They were banged up most of the season last year. If they can stay healthy through the spring and fall and if Fehoko is as advertised we will have a great DL. Add our depth along the front and I feel really good about where the front 7 is. Dellenger states that we had 6 healthy scholarship DL at points during 2017 and we will be going into the summer with 18.

Our D should only get stronger as games progress with that depth and size.

I hope so. That's the one element missing from Aranda's D. With question marks at the RB position we could sure use some short fields and extra possessions.
