A lot of people from my hometown of Buras moved there after Katrina, brother included. The Primary School is very nice from what I here. The high school is above average. Salvo's suuuuuucks for real, if it weren't for the base that place would have closed years ago. Houses are above average in price. Traffic is a bitch when the plants down the road shift change.

Was it named after a 19th century new Orleans madame?

You think only people on the base eat at Salvo's?? The place is not fancy, but good boiled seafood cravings are definitely not limited to just those on the base.

When compared to what we had on the lower end. Tom's Place in Empire and Camp's Seafood in Buras were way better. Salvos I find over cooks their fried seafood and can't boil shrimp for shite.

Over priced and meh. You could get just as good at the Venice Inn.

I’d move to BC if I had an opportunity. Great people down there. Quiet and safe but close to the city.

I second the Gen de Gaulle way through English Turn. F the bridge and that tunnel. Along that route are some nice neighborhoods with modern upscale homes. Green letter streets are more of you older 70-80s style middle class homes. Jesuit Bend is pretty but behind the wall.

Shout out to all my Belle Chasse people. Bout time we get some love on here

Some people love it, some hate it.. it’s a (big) small town with great public schools and virtually no crime. Housing can be expensive but it’s a great, secure place to live with enough to do as long as you love doing shite outdoors

Camps had the best boiled seafood down there. Tom would get the pick of the liter when it came to oysters.

I’ll chime in just to keep Belle Chasse relevant for a while longer.

It’s safe, short commute to anywhere in metro area, somehow a ridiculous hot bed for baseball talent, and good people.

Sure you have to deal with small town drama/politics, but you can shoot across the river and enjoy some of the best aspects of a historical city while not having to worry about the worst aspects following you home and beating you senseless.

Also don’t speed, like at all.

Car washes are free in the tunnel, I just can’t vouch for the quality.

Just also remember scuba gear if the tunnel does finally give out.

Born and raised in BC. Lived in Lakeviewtiger after college until 2007 when I moved back to BC. Funny...got swamped for Katrina in Lakeviewtiger but would have been fine in BC.

Great place to raise a family. The community(s) down here are unbelievably friendly and welcoming. I know many Military families that have recently chosen to remain here after a 2 year stop. You would think they have been here their whole lives.

The schools system is one of the best in the state. We are also one of the safest areas in the state.

Housing current and future will be between 115 s/f and 180 s/f for belle chasse. It is a wide spread but you can get mature and nice or new and nice for that range. Key part: nice.

All the good spots for dining have been mentioned, but you can experience fine dining at woodland plantation. Just call ahead. Trust me on this. It is good.

Fishing is top notch and if you want to just chill in the water...more than likely, one of your new neighbors will have a boat and invite you to do just that.

There are plenty of local events to get to know your community. Coming up: march 24- crawfish boil off. May 18: seafood fest . Every Friday : fish fries at churches up and down hwy 23

We also have almost 20 billion in development on the books for areas 30-40 minutes south. The base is also looking into allowing commercial air cargo on the south runway. This area is looking up.

A new bridge is on the way. And another south of the base.

Yes our sheriffs office is legit..but they are key fixtures in community and have the support of our community. If you are friendly, expect that back.

I am fairly ingrained down here..proudly. I would be happy to welcome a new neighbor and give you the nickel tour.

Yeah, but it borders Algiers so you can be a victim in only 5, depending on where you live.

I’m originally from the south end of plaquemines Parish, but lived in Belle Chasse for 15+ years. It’s a good place for families and it is safe but the housing is expensive and dining/entertainment since choices are limited. You will have to drive to Gretna or really New Orleans for more variety in dining/bar choices. Just depends on what you are into. Drive to those areas aren’t too far though.
