I work offshore, but if I was in an office, I'd be up through the drop ceiling doing my best Judd Nelson Breakfast Club imitation.

We've actually had active shooter training at our office.

Like physical drills? Or just watching a video.

Everyone at the hospital was assigned a video about active shooter to watch(I'm sure many of us have seen the same video).

This is the video...

Ive been a part of active shooter webinars, seminars, panel discussions, etc. there is no right answer. Plenty of wrong answers though.

The preferred method is run, hide, fight.

I know the expert advice is to shelter in place

Actually, it is to
1. Run
2. Hide
3. Fight

Hide under my desk or barricade myself in a conference room.

That is the title of the video I posted

My desk is in a room with 4 other desks. We can lock the door to that room and no one else can get in and then we all run out the fire door. But then it wouldn't let the rest of the people in our department be able to escape. You still have to badge in to get access to the main door of our department in the hospital anyways though.

It somewhat amazes me that shootings don't happen at hospitals more often. Granted different variables come into play.

They do happen on occasion at hospitals.

I just read a security guard was recently shot at a hospital by a prisoner patient that tried to escape.

When I worked peds we had a patient's father be escorted off the hospital property by security because of a bunch of family drama. Don't remember the specifics of it...but iirc he also had gang affiliation and threatened to come back armed and kill all of us on the unit. We had police presence in front of our unit screening all visitors 24/7 the next few days because of it. I can remember being terrified those few days when I went to work. Would park in different areas every time I went to work. Wore street clothes into work and changed into my scrubs when I got to work and did the reverse when I went home.

I'm locking myself in the supply closet and laying low.

Maybe it’s because of my line of work but I am constantly thinking about where exits are located and what i’d do in certain situations. Probably unhealthy for us to think this way.

Why would it be unhealthy? Seems like an animal instinct to me.

I sit next to a massive window but have no doors that lead to an exit. I would throw my desk chair through the window and run like hell. I’m sure I’d get cut pretty bad but I work in what is basically a large closet. Definitely not sitting around waiting.
