It’s not replacing the entire benefit, and you can definitely account for those scenarios.

Stamped with big block letters : Courtesy of generous taxpaying Americans. Each package containing a pamphlet on the advantages of being self-reliant.

That would make Prog heads explode.

That would be awesome. I am so tired of seeing some welfare queen with crab legs and steaks in their buggy.

How many of these are out there?

Or a family that's effectively homeless.

What's "effectively homeless" and how is it measured?

Or a family that has their 'food parcel' stolen from their doorstep.

What about a family that has their EBT card stolen?

Or a package that's lost in the mail.

They get another package sent?

Guess Americans can starve

Ya, just like the millions dying in the streets because of the repeal of the obamacare mandate, or the other millions dying in the streets because of the tax cut.

You are such a fricking hack

Yes yes yes yes yes

This makes way too much sense for Democrats to ever go for it, though.

I would only add that able-bodied low-income people should have to work full-time on farms that produce this food as a condition of receiving the benefits for their family.

Guess Americans can starve so you can live out your ignorant Randian fantasies, eh?

Allow them to pick it up. Right now, we account for the possibilities that their card is stolen, they are locked out of their account, and that they don't have a stable address. The risks are nearly the same. If you want them to go get it rather than have it delivered, that's pretty hardline, but I could get on board with it.

So much fraud with this stuff.

The fraud doesn't really occur with teh end users, it occurs with vendors that accept EBT cards. That's where the crack down should focus, but the poor are the lower hanging fruit.

And this idea which just shift the fraud and abuse somewhere else. You don't think there would be massive corruption with corporations wanting their food in those packages?

Ah yes, let very rare occurrences determine overall policy. It's the liberal way, let a tiny porion of the population determine the policy of the majority.

I had this very same thought. There would be no more opportunity for them to sell food stamps for cash or to use it to buy junk.

this will reduce fraud and reduce usage. They say they want food to feed their family...have them prove it.

The proposal, new in the White House fiscal 2019 budget, is for families to receive some of their benefits “in the form of a USDA Foods package, which would include items such as shelf-stable milk, ready-to-eat cereals, pasta, peanut butter, beans and canned fruit, vegetables, and meat, poultry or fish.”
Taking advantage of the existing logistics chains of local grocery stores is always going to be cheaper than the federal government actually trying to create and operate a meal-delivery service from scratch.
