Slow down and read the post. Just because I view two records differently, does not mean I don't give credit. Vandy going 9-4 and Alabama going 9-4 are two different things as well.

Clemson going 9-4 and Appalachian State going 9-4 are also two different things.

A 9-4 record, isolated from any context does not necessarily mean anything specific.

Get it?

I've seen it happen many times.

i'm not there or close to it. people should think things out before they speak (or communicate in any form). emotional outbursts and biased statements drive me crazy.

It doesn't.

When Orgeron does what he said he would do, then people will take notice.

But he isn't and likely won't, so I wouldn't count on him changing anyone's mind.

What happens in November determines how good of a job coach O is doing.

PARTIALLY true; that was the measuring stick for Miles.

But Miles would make it to November in position to make a run. O didn't last year, and if he loses to Miami and Auburn, he doesn't this year either.

Successful coach: make it to the November stretch (or specifically, Alabama) with everything still on the table. Then make it to the final game of the season with a chance to go to Atlanta still in reach.
Notice, you have to get TO those games, but not have to win them... you in theory can lose to Bama but not collapse afterwards (Miles' biggest sin later in his career). If you do that, you're in play for a NY6 bowl and a very good season. If you get through at least 1 of the 2 big challenges (Bama, go to Atlanta) you're having a great year. Get through both and you're likely in the playoffs.

As of now, O has lost all of his important games- lost to Florida with a Sugar Bowl on the line, lost to Notre Dame with a 10 win milestone on the line, lost the early challenge game that would lead to entering the Bama game in position to move into the top.

Win against Miami? He BETTER do that, or next season will be on fire all season long.

Agreed

Although if we were to somehow pull of a miracle 11-1 season I'd want that loss to be to Miami since they are out of conference.

If we beat Miami in game 1 I don't really care how we do it

But it's likely we'll have to have a passing game to pull it off since we don't appear to have a true feature back. One might emerge later in the season but I don't think we'll have one on opening day.

Exactly. Great post.

I’ve been saying that Miami is a win imo. They were a good, not great, team this year, that we actually match up well against.

They win off of their defense just like we do, and both teams will play conservatively hoping their D will be the one to make a big play to swing the game their way.

Aranda will keep them off the score board, which means our young QB won’t be under pressure to play keep up in a shoot out, and we will likely win a low scoring 13-10 type game with a big play off of play action having the CheeriOs screaming about how we can finally throw the ball!!! As if play action was ever a problem in Baton Rouge.

Until we have a sophisticated passing scheme that uses the entire field consistently, including short and intermediate routes as well as sideline and middle of the field throws on a regular basis, we aren’t seeing anything that we haven’t seen before and nothing that will do any good when we get to Alabama or any of the other top tier SEC teams.

Like from 2005-2015???

The difference between the “negatigers” then and now is that you fricks were constantly stewing and waiting to strike despite the coach guiding LSU through the most successful run in LSU history.

When things were tough in 2008 and 2014, two years out of 11 btw, there was at least a lengthy record of accomplishments we could point to to say Miles was a proven winner and let’s see if he can right the ship.

O hasn’t done a single fricking thing in Baton Rouge to earn any kind of capital, and his history as a head coach prior to LSU is a disaster and gives plenty of reason for reasonable fans to doubt he will ever sniff any kind of championship while running a program on his own.

The hypocrisy of you idiots that defend what we have seen so far from O simply because he isn’t Les Miles is absolutely staggering.

Right. Go figure you put more pressure on a defense by forcing them to defend the whole field in the passing game.

Not at all imho. The people that are still pounding the keyboard won’t be happy until O is gone. Unfortunately for LSU, that means losing. The people that support LSU will be happy when we win and pissed when we lose. The people that hate the O hire will probably want a loss as they feel it will mean a quicker end to the Orgeron era. I wasn’t a fan of the hire, but I can’t imagine wanting LSU to lose in anything for any reason. That line of thinking just doesn’t compute for me. I wanted Les gone, but I never pulled against our Tigers. frick that.

that's a simplistic and short-sighted view.

I pulled like hell for LSU to lose every basketball game last year, because it was crystal clear that the team wasn't going anywhere with Johnny Jones as HC. If we had gone .500 for a few years and Jones hung around, it just digs the hole deeper and prolongs the agony.

Better to have a horrible year, give Alleva cover to fire Jones, and then hire the right guy.

All of which occurred, and now we're on the fast track to having a very good and relevant basketball program.

None of that occurs if Jones finished .500 last year.

So yea, I absolutely pulled for us to lose last year and am proud to say so. Not because I "wanted to be right" but because we needed to get rid of a bad coach and hire a good one as quick as possible. Very simple, actually.

Sometimes, short-term pain must be endured for long-term gain. This applies to all aspects of life.

I'd get this logic if people were confident in the administration to knock it out the park with the next hire. Until there is a major house cleaning we need to pull for LSU to win.

I doubt it changes the minds especially the negative ranters at all. If they win by a small margin, it will not be good enough. At the end of the day any win against the tough schedule that LSU has next year should make fans happy, but not the ranters.
