Why aren't they just priced what they should be and you either buy it or not? I find it such a pain in the arse to negotiate or try to figure out if I'm getting a 'deal' or not.

How come nothing else is like this and when will it change?

Go in with a set price and willing to walk away... they will call back in a day or two, to accept the offer

If you follow the OT advice, paying the MSRP is the only answer, just do that and it's easy.

Just show them your penis. If they are in awe of it, they will deal with you. If they point and laugh, go to another dealer.

My method is go look at the one you really want first. Have a plan B at another dealership. If the salesman at the first lot is worth a shite he won't let you leave when you say there's one more you want to go check out.

They sell the monthly payment, not the total amount. Very few pay cash.

I think it's also that people want to feel like they got a good deal. You could price trucks at the 10k below msrp they normally sell for, but then people would want to go haggle below that number. It's just in our nature.

Vehicles and houses, as much as they suck, are both much easier than furniture.

I loathe furniture shopping. The quality and styles vary way too much.

I find a vehicle online at a price I'm willing to pay.

Go to dealership I found vehicle at.

Pay that price and don't fall for any deal-making schticks.

Done.

It shouldn't be this complicated

seems like someone tried that a decade ago or so...people are so accustomed to the current system that they just got pissed off when they couldn't barter.

There are also a lot of discounts out there like fleet and company discounts, so what truly is msrp? I agree it's terrible but the internet has made it a hell of a lot easier.

Additionally, as said the dealers are there to make the most they can as any business is. If 1 out of 5-10 people are willing to pay more why would they not get that?

I actually had a good car buying experience today. Was looking for a brand new 2017 Honda Pilot EX-L. Only a handful of them left in the area. Neither BR dealership had them marked down, but the Gonzales and New Orleans dealerships had them marked about $4k off of the MSRP. I figured that was a better starting point.
So I called both to get their lowest price. After a little haggling, Gonzales was at $33,300 and Nola was at $33,100. I told them both that the other one was at $32,500. Then waited on call backs to see which one would come down.
Nola called back and said they would do $32,400 plus T,T&L and NO fees.
Then Gonzales called and said that they couldn’t come down any more.
So I called Nola back and said to get the paperwork ready and there better not be any surprises or I was gonna walk out. I filled out the credit app on their website to save some time when I got there.
Me and the wife got down there and they had most of the paperwork waiting on us. We just had to go see the finance guy and sign everything.
Got the car we wanted for $32.4 plus TT&L at 0.9% for 60 months. Original sticker price was $39k.
I did all the negotiating from my living room and got a pretty damn good deal.
Sometimes you get lucky!

I've bought my past 2 cars online. Best experiences ever. The car gets delivered to my driveway and I have 2 weeks for inspecting it. Anything isn't as described and it's sent back on the dealers dime.

Why should they set a price when there are suckers to gouge.
