Just asked my daughter and she is 210 out 788 with a 3.97 GPA
She took 9 AP courses and she is going to take 4 of the tests this year, she took two last year and got 4s on both of them
#1 in her class this year has a 4.87 GPA which is the new "highest GPA possible" based on the number of available AP courses

she qualifies for the Texas Tiger Scholly, so she has the equivalent of LA instate tuition, she is eligible for the Honors College, so she can live in the new Honors Dorm. She has the LSU on-campus job scholarship.

National Merit Semifinalists are also the top 1%, and Northshore High has been routinely cranking out 5-6 per year. Literally every word I’ve stated in my posts is true. And I’m not guessing or generalizing on the scores - before I posted I asked my kid to name each kid and their score. Northshore also routinely has 6-8 kids that tie for Valedictorian each year, which basically means they all finish with straight A’s with 4-5 AP/Honors courses per year.

Maybe they realize schools have inflated grading systems. A 4.69? Really? On a 4.0 grading system someone makes more than 15% higher than the highest possible grade?
Now, as for the 30 ACT, that is hard to understand/believe as you are automatically admitted if you are top 25%, have an ACT of 30 and a composite of 27 in math and English at A&M.
The average score at UT Austin is 29, so it is not unusual for someone with a 30/31 to miss out.

A lot of colleges strictly look at class ranking and ACT/SAT scores since inflated GPAs are so hard to compare. Or they just look at the unweighted GPA.

Get it in writing in a legally binding contract, which I doubt that it will happen. After the first year and new budget cuts, and classes being cancelled or rescheduled, you will be paying out of state like everyone else from Texas who sent their kids there.
Then she will want out of the dorm after year one.
If I had it to do all over again, I would have encouraged him to go elsewhere. I knew F. King wasn't good but, I had know idea he was going to suck this bad.

So far her plan is UTSA for CAP for one year then UT-Austin for three years
Only downside is all of the CAP majors are liberal arts so she will probably just major in English at UTSA
She will commit to UTSA on Feb 16, but you can back out
I am perfectly fine with this, will be money well spent

She was 15 slots from auto-acceptance in TAMU (top 25%)
and sending her to that Blinn Team program is BS. It is two years of JUCO at Blinn before you can enroll at TAMU

That really only comes into play at UT or aTM.....and I think UT is down to top 7% but it depends on how many top 10% students apply. There is a hard cap on the number of top 10% get in starting with the top 1%, then 2% and so on until that cap is reached. But there are a lot of other good schools in Texas such as Texas Tech, UNT, UT-Dallas and UT San Antonio. Then the smaller, decent schools have programs that are highly regarded such as Forestry of Early Childhood Education at Stephen F. Austin. Criminal Justice at Sam Houston and Architecture at U of Houston.

I had a GPA of around 4.3 and finished in the top 5-10% range so I was automatically accepted to A&M, but that was 12 years ago and in hindsight I'm not sure my level of effort in HS would have gotten me in now just over a decade later. I was a "study the night before the test" guy for almost every class save the advanced AP math courses.
Kids in HS now looking to get into major academic institutions work SO much harder than I did and the overachievers I knew back in the mid-2000s. I honestly have very, very few conscious memories of cracking open a textbook in HS, it was mainly just cramming notes and PP slides. I spent more time in one semester in football/basketball practice than I did studying combined my entire 4 years I'd bet.
Kids in HS now looking to get into major academic institutions work SO much harder than I did and the overachievers I knew back in the mid-2000s. I honestly have very, very few conscious memories of cracking open a textbook in HS, it was mainly just cramming notes and PP slides.
