I was referring to the American photos.
The only thing the French defeated was anyone racing them away from the front lines.

As a military guy, I can tell you that the whole, "let's celebrate you by making YOU march down the road 5 miles on what normally would be your day off" has always been a bit of comedy.
You want to celebrate me when I was in? Good. Let my arse sit on the road side while thousands of CIVILIANS march down the street chanting how great I am.

It's like saying a kids birthday party is pointless because it has no useful value.
It's incredibly short sighted. Sometimes people just want to do and see things that make them feel good, feel patriotic, or be appreciated.

Those of you who haven't been in the military just don't understand what a HUGE clusterfrick it is for even Brigade size event.
I can't even fathom the levels of suck that are going to occur for a national-level parade in DC.
