Well aren't you the sharpest knife in the drawer.

"They also walk! Do you suggest we chop off our legs!"

quote:

In a prior post I showed Thomas Jefferson in the White House celebrating with military parades. Here’s John Adams before occupation of White House.
1798- Adams is in Philadelphia reviewing a parade of military companies and later that afternoon receiving and entertaining guests.

Dude, different time. There's just such a difference in the military before and after WWI that I'm not sure Adams or Jefferson would want this crap either after the Great War. Bastille Day is a relic from a past era i.e. Jefferson and Adams' era. Now most military parades, they're marching if their lives depend on it... because it does. The countries that most frequently have military parades I'm willing to bet had the greatest human rights atrocities of the 20th and 21st centuries.

Not on this board.

Here, disagree with anything Trump does and you're a "libtard" or "prog filth". Doesn't matter if you voted for him or not - it's blind obedience or the chair.

How many "military guys" do you know?

It’s a bad idea in a vacuum...but when you consider progs are going to way overreact and lose their shite...I’d say it’s a good idea

Anything that pushes the media and democrats into showing people who they are and what they’re really about is a good idea

Odd justification for wasting money. I didn't know Conservatives were pro-big government so long as the bigger part was screwing over Democrats.

"This will cost the country millions!!"

"Yes... but will Hillary hate it? Then WORTH IT!!!"

Being honored by marching miles? I doubt it. If you gave them the choice between this and a First Class ticket home, I'd bet 99 out of 100 that would choose the later. Sure they like a medal, but just marching as a unit away from home where no one recognizes them as an individual, no I don't think they enjoy that.

Bottom line is it can be a fun and unifying thing. People are bitching because frankly, it's low hanging fruit for board conservatives who want to appear edgy and non partisan. At the end of the day, you are melting about a goddam parade and it makes you sound like a gaping pussy.

Marching 5 miles is everyone's idea of fun. As I said, if this was Obama, you'd be flipping your shite because you'd rightly see that he's only doing this for his own ego.

Don’t know. If he was, you’d call him a phony and a fraud. If he wasn’t, you’d call him disrespectful and unpatriotic.

You’re a clown, bro.

No, dullest knife in the dwarf. I suggest we do what we want to do regardless of who agrees or disagrees.

Well here in New Orleans, military units parade in every Mardi Gras parade. They range from junior ROTC grade schoolers, to the USMC Band.

During the Saint’s parade Navy Commander Kelly Sullivan and Lt. Commander Rigel Pirrone, stationed at Belle Chasse Naval Air Station’s Joint Reserve Base, piloted two F-18 Hornets over the parade route.

The 4th of July was a political event. But without the Continental Army Adams and Jefferson would have hung.

More breathing and leg cutting arguments from the dullest knife in the dwarf.

I don’t really care if we parade.
I don’t care about the money in the cause of patriotism. I love that we “waste” money on a ship that couldn’t hold its own against a swift boat, the USS Constitution. I love the time, money, and effort spent on the pomp and circumstance at the Tomb of the Unknowns. I like air shows and showing the flag port call.

But to pretend that this would be a bad thing that only despots would do is asinine.

I was in the military. And, if you asked any random group of 100 Soldiers, 99 would say, "ya wanna thank me?............well, we can start by not ADDING work to me.........making me travel to DC away from my family........and marching 5 miles...........a 4 day weekend is thanks enough".
Yup...retired military here. You want to honor the military, give them time off. The worst way to say thank you is making them get in dress uniform in summertime to march in a parade...not to mention the hours put in to practice. Bad idea...

Really? Regardless of who tells us? So no expert opinions from you anymore. Is a pic of you?

Mardi Gras parades are a drunken orgy. Hardly military grade.

OK, so lets try to bring the swastika back. Hey, historically it means "good luck", so frick the Nazis for stealing that. Thomas Jefferson and John Adams didn't have a problem with swastikas. Who cares if we're sending off a despotic message because Thomas Jefferson would be fine with it? I suggest we do what we want to do regardless of who agrees or disagrees.
