I can understand if you fought in WWII and stormed the beaches like a fricking man to have them march down Time's Square and then having drinks on the house for the military and have women throw themselves at them. But an annual event? I'm sure the military loathes this.

Yup.
On top of the blown up weekend.........there will be COPIOUS battalion and brigade level meetings that run after hours in the days leading up.
NCOs will be up late planning what amounts to a deployment of their equipment.
Then, after the parade, there will be the reverse with late afternoons and probably weekends ensuring all equipment has returned and been accounted for.
Basically, in this parade designed to "celebrate" the military..........the one who will hate it the most will be..........the military.

I'm willing to bet most of the troops don't want this. If my Dad is ever flying First Class and he sees a guy in uniform, he gives them his ticket. That's the shite they're after. They don't want to march 5 miles on Capitol Hill and spend days away from their families all to appease the President's ego.

Why do some have to be so cold and utilitarian about everything? Relax a little.
Say you just returned from Afghanistan and are just wanting to see your family.... nah you're now instructed to march for a day that takes up 4 days of your precious time to satisfy the President's ego. You'll get to see them for 2 weeks instead of 3 when you're deployed again.

This is dumb. First of all, stop acting like the entire fricking armed forces are being forced to march 20 miles in 100 degree heat. Second of all, most military guys like the idea of being honored this way, and you know it. These guys march in parades like Macy's or at Mardi Gras frequently. It's not a big deal.
Bottom line is it can be a fun and unifying thing. People are bitching because frankly, it's low hanging fruit for board conservatives who want to appear edgy and non partisan. At the end of the day, you are melting about a goddam parade and it makes you sound like a gaping pussy.
