I disagree. With Brees only having 2-3 years of fringe elite play left, I think this is the time to make a splash. Unfortunately, it's a shitty free agent class for our needs.
We tried to go all out in 2013 and 14. We should just stick to what's been the best luck for us. Easy and steady like in 06-08 and 15-17, although 2015 was kinda solid more than good. It's guys like Vilma, Fugita, Hargrove, Klein, and Te'o that will get you to where you need and not break the bank.
In 3-4 years we are gonna be looking at having to resign some high priced FAs, Kamara, Lattimore, MT, Ram. By then we will probably have just resigned even Cam Jordan again. We don't need several big FA signings, maybe just 1. I'd keep Kelemete and Okafor, and let Vaccaro walk unless the market doesn't show much interest and he is cheaper than assumed.
With Anzalone, Klein, Te'o, and Robertson I"m not wanting Saints to spend big money on a FA LB, although I wouldn't mind them drafting one in upper rounds. I could see us making 1 big splash at maybe TE or SS though.

Agreed. Top 3 guys to re-sign are Brees, Okafor (we need Ansah if we can't re-sign Okafor), & Kelemete. I'm assuming that Vaccaro will command a decent amount of money. I'm guessing that we let him walk & sign a cheaper Safety that is better in pass coverage. We should be pretty set after that.

Yep. The available free agents at LB aren't that great or they are about to be 30 years old. I'd rather just roll with our current guys & draft a LB.
If we have enough money for a big splash signing...I'm guessing that it's either WR or TE. Probably TE, due to the fact that WR is always loaded in the 3rd round.
-Brees
-Okafor or Ansah
-Kelemete
-Best value contract at SS
-Either WR or TE if we have the money
-We would have a starter at every position, & could draft BPA at every pick.

If we don't re-sign Vaccaro, I actually wouldn't complain if we signed a FS that is solid against the run. We really need good pass coverage out of that slot defender. Vonn Bell can also be used to stop the run pretty efficiently.
Looking on spotrac...I found 2 guys that might work out & are still fairly young.
LaMarcus Joyner - 27 years old with a market value of 10.5 mil.
Tre Boston - 25 years old with a market value of 7.6 mil. He had 5 int's this year.
I'd kind of rather Tre Boston. He's younger, cheaper, & less injury prone. I've never watched Boston play though, so I'm unaware if he's good enough against the run.
As far as signing a SS...Vaccaro is better than or equal to every SS available besides Morgan Burnett (29 years old with a market value of 11.4 mil). Based on all this...I'm assuming we either re-sign Vaccaro (only 26 years old) or try our luck with a FS in free agency.

The areas to address/need are as follows: a fast, rangy MLB, a TE, a #2 receiver, and a safety if we let KV walk. Bobby Wagner would be ideal but it may cost too much. Cameron Brate or Jimmy Graham would absolutely kill it in this offense. Kiper mocked Courtland Sutton to us this morning, I would like that but would prefer Rashaan Evans (who he had going a pick after us).
Sunday afternoon made everyone realize just how close this team is. This offseason should be about pushing all of our chips to the middle and going for this thing next year. We must resign Kelemete and I would love to have Okafor back. I would like another DT,and CB.
We have the best young CB, RB, FS, RT, and WR in the league. No one has a brighter future

Peat is also in the conversation for best young LG as well. He's just a year older than Ramczyk.

Nigel Bradham and Demario Davis are the two guys I hope we target
assuming the cuts and restructures are done and we have 20-25mil in cap space after brees, it gets pretty easy IMHO.
Assuming worst case:
ERFA: Zach Wood (555k)
RFA: Delvin Breaux, Willie Snead, and Brandon Coleman (1.9m/ea)
because we'd be at 58 roster spots, that would move us from ~32m to ~28m.
There's a lot of moving parts on the low end, but when it comes to the core we can stay in tact and still add at least 3 talented free agents to this.

If we can retain Brees and Okafor then you have to draft a OLB with our first pick.
At CB Breaux has proven been a proven comeback player, but is he now a cripple and do we snag a CB with the 2nd pick or FA? The real question is do we trade up with our 3rd/5th pick to snag a legit SS or try or pull one from FA? Either way we need to come away with the first two picks as OLB, SS, CB, or DL.
SS, WR, and DL could be interesting to watch for in FA, however, that rationale is contingent upon my draft logic and retaining Brees and Okafor

Realistically all we need (assuming we resign Okafor and Brees)
A game changing LB
Slot WR
Threat at TE
SS to replace Vaccaro
We can get a good TE and a good slot WR in FA and def take a good LB on Round 1 of the draft. The question is do you go after a guy like Eric Reid on the cheap, resign Vaccaro or trade up into the 2nd round and get a guy like Deshon Elliot? We need that player

It really depends on the retention of FA (Brees, Okafor, and Coleman) and cap hit. I think we have to snag a WR or SS from FA, I’d prefer a SS. We could also solidify our D by trading up to get another CB or DL. That leaves TE suspect and takes away the ability to fortify the OL.

Tre Boston was on the Panthers.
And of those two much rather Tre Boston Joyner is overrated and 10.5 is funny

Like demario Davis but he is 29 and he is going to get a decent payday just don't think we spend big money on a linebacker when they just gave Klein 5 mill and two is signed for another year.
He is an inside backer and we have two options right there.
Nigel bradham will probably resign with eagles

I mean he was traded back to NYJ so I think as a system MLB, he fits to stay there as opposed to leave again.
Why I say we should go for him is that Klein can literally play any LBer spot and as an OLB he can still line up or call the defense. We've see it when Kwon was brought in for Tampa, David was still the one lining everyone up until Alexander became comfortable.

This is where it gets tricky for them...Even with projected cap, Eagles are 7m over.
They really are in cap hell and their FA list is actually rather impressive
Burton
Bradham
Sproles
Graham
Patrick Robinson
They need to shed weight to just get below.
Cutting Torrey Smith saves 5m
Cutting Brent Celek saves 4m (1mil dead)
Other than that...not many moves they can make unless they restructure/extend

Yeah couple guys are going to leave just think we can get by with drafting a lb and not paying 10 mil

I'd rather see us go LB in Round 1.
Teo played well but he's a 2-down guy. Same with Klein but I thought Teo outplayed Klein for the most part. I still think it's our most sorely lacking position other than Tight End and is the position we most need to improve on. We need a three down-athletic machine and every good defense has one.
If we resign Okafor I think we draft a DE and DT for depth later in the draft. Because, let's be honest, Onyemata and Davison played well this year and they're cheap. One of them will start next to Rankins. But we do need depth there. TE, LB are huge needs. WR is a very close third. Safety being close to that if Vaccaro walks.
I think people get caught up in not seeing LB as a critical position where we need to improve on since we had solid depth there even though Robertson and Teo played out of their minds at times. But they're average players, same with Klein. And it's fine if one of them starts (you can't have studs everywhere) but Anzalone is kind of our only bright spot and he's not realiable with injury concerns. People get lost in the fancy positions like TE, DE and WR but LB is a major hole.

Fairley is and was easily the biggest off-season mistake, and it showed EVERY time Rankins was Doubled, the DEs got pressure and the QB just stepped up in the pocket and had all day....A penetrating DT is this teams biggest need by far, hopefully we can get that money back. I wouldnt have given him the contract pre heart condition situation, he's notorious for playing dirty and only the year before big moneys there to be made.....I'd also love to get Fleener off the books, those two spots are where I'd start, that's alot of money the way Ireland spends

I think signing Butler is less importance than it was last year. With Lattimore and the emergence of Crawley, PJ, and the possible return of Breaux, no need to spend big on Butler when the draft should give us what we need there. Landry would be great, but will also want big money. I am curious to see what happens with Snead. That will determine a lot.
