2018 Saints Off-season Roster Mega Thread
The players in bold are all under contract for the 2018 season & the year next to their name is the final year of their contract. 89 players total...64 under contract, 19 UFA's, 4 RFA's, & 2 ERFA's. As of right now...I'd say that the most likely 1st round targets are DE, LB, QB (Brees' successor), & TE. The next tier of drafting need would be S, WR, OL, & CB imo. I could see us drafting a DT or RB in the later rounds if our target is there. FB (maybe 6th/7th round if we don't re-sign Zach Line), K, P, & LS are the only positions that I would say are undraftable this year. We only have 1 pick in the top 2 rounds, so this draft will likely be used for mostly depth purposes. Our lack of high picks makes it very important that we hit on our free agents in 2018 (we can't expect to get 5 starters in the draft like we did in 2017). Best case scenario is hoping that we get a starter with our 1st rounder, & then 1 more starter at best with the rest of the draft.

According to OvertheCap
Total Cap Liabilities: $153,934,679
Total Cap Liabilities (Top 51): $133,541,541
Team Cap Space: $31,779,554

QB(3)- Assuming we re-sign Brees, we still need to look for his eventual replacement. I'm assuming it's 1st round or bust in 2018. Maybe 3rd/4th round if CSP likes the guy.
-Drew Brees - UFA
-Chase Daniel - UFA
-Taysom Hill - 555 k (2019)

RB(5) - Need a #3 RB. Can be had for cheap in F.A. or mid/late round draft pick.
-Mark Ingram - 6.245 mil (2018)
-Alvin Kamara - 878 k (2020)
-Daniel Lasco - 630 k (2018)
-Jonathan Williams - 680 k (2018)
-Trey Edmunds - 555 k (2019)

FB(2) - Not a big issue. Either Line or Kuhn will suffice. Hopefully it's Line.
-Zach Line - UFA
-John Kuhn - UFA

WR(10) - Need to add a legit #2 WR with speed. We have a legit #1, #3, & #4 (either Coleman or Snead). 3rd/4th round or good F.A. contract.
-Micheal Thomas - 1.396 mil (2019)
-Ted Ginn - 4.5 mil (2019)
-Brandon Coleman - RFA
-Willie Snead - RFA
-Tommylee Lewis - 632 k (2018)
-Austin Carr - 555 k (2019)
-Paul Turner - 555 k (2018)
-Dan Arnold - 480 k (2019)
-Travin Dural - 480 k (2018)
-Josh Huff - 705 k (2018)

TE(7) - I wouldn't be surprised if we went TE in the 1st round if our guy falls in our lap. I'm assuming either Hill or Hooman is cut as well...my money is on Hooman. It's looking like Fleener plays here in 2018.
-Coby Fleener - 8.0 mil (2020)
-Josh Hill - 2.833 mil (2018)
-Hooman - 1.933 mil (2018)
-Garrett Griffin - 555 k (2018)
-John Phillips - UFA
-Clay Harbor - UFA
-Alex Ellis - 555 k (2018)

OC(4) - We need to have a Center ready by the time Unger's contract expires. Hopefully Cameron Tom develops into a decent player & becomes that guy.
-Max Unger - 8.0 mil (2019)
-Cameron Tom - 555 k (2018)
-Jack Allen - ERFA
-Gabe Ikard - 630 k (2018)

OG(7) - Hopefully we can re-sign Kelemete. If we don't, I assume we'll add an OG in F.A. or the draft (3rd-5th round). Re-signing LeRibeus should be a given.
-Larry Warford - 9.0 mil (2020)
-Andrus Peat - 3.625 mil (2018) 5th year option.
-Senio Kelemete - UFA
-Josh LeRibeus - UFA
-John Fullington - 480 k (2018)
-Landon Turner - 555 k (2018)
-Nate Theaker - 480 k (2018)
-Overthecap doesn't list Andrew Tiller anymore, but I haven't seen anything that says we cut him yet.

OT(4) - Obviously, Strief either takes a paycut or gets cut. We should be fine at Tackle if Strief takes a paycut. I could see us drafting an OT in the 3rd/4th round if Strief is let go.
-Terron Armstead - 13.5 mil (2021)
-Ryan Ramczyk - 2.021 mil (2020) 5th year option.
-Zach Strief - 3.875 mil (2018)
-Bryce Harris - UFA

K(1) - Lutz has this position locked down.
-Will Lutz - 630 k (2018)

P(1) - High Cap # for a punter, but I assume he's back.
-Thomas Morstead - 4.85 mil (2018)

LS(1) - It's either Zach Wood again or some other guy for around league minimum.
-Zach Wood - ERFA

DT(8) - I think finding another legit DT is needed, but not as important as some of the other positions. Hopefully Loewen picks up where he left off.
-Sheldon Rankins - 3.491 mil (2019) 5th year option.
-Tyeler Davison - 1.959 mil (2018)
-David Onyemata - 766 k (2019)
-Mitchell Loewen - 482 k (2018)
-David Parry - RFA
-John Hughes - UFA
-Woodrow Hamilton - 555 k (2018)
-DeVaroe Lawrence - 481 k (2019)

DE(8) - Hopefully we can re-sign Okafor to another good contract. Even if we re-sign Okafor, I'd still like to draft a highly rated DE if possible. I like Hendrickson for depth, & George Johnson deserves a shot to make the team. Kikaha is going to have to earn his spot in 2018.
-Cam Jordan - 14.497 mil (2020)
-Alex Okafor - UFA
-Trey Hendrickson - 755 k (2020)
-Hau'oli Kikaha - 1.676 mil (2018)
-Al-Quadin Muhammad - 593 k (2020)
-George Johnson - UFA
-Kasim Edeballi - UFA
-Alex Jenkins - 480 k (2018)

LB(12) - We already have legit guys & legit depth under contract. Still need to add a difference maker here (high priced F.A. or high draft pick). I could see Jonathan Freeny being given a chance in the preseason. Stupar might be expendable if we add legit talent here in the offseason.
-AJ Klein - 5.2 mil (2020)
-Craig Robertson - 2.0 mil (2018)
-Alex Anzalone - 826 k (2020)
-Manti Te'o - 2.8 mil (2018)
-Nate Stupar - 2.125 mil (2018)
-Jonathan Freeny - UFA
-Michael Mauti - UFA
-Gerald Hodges - UFA
-Sae Tautu - 480 k (2018)
-Adam Bighill - 555 k (2018)
-Shayne Skov - 630 k (2018)
-Jayrone Elliott - 705 k (2018)

CB(9) - I'll take our top 3 guys, but we still need another legit guy. We should be ok if Breaux comes back fully healthy, but I'm assuming that doesn't happen. We need 4 legit guys here. Either draft a guy (rounds 1-4) or a good bargain F.A. contract. Justin Hardee has that #5/#6 spot locked up b/c of his special teams play.
-Marshon Lattimore - 3.491 mil (2020) 5th year option.
-Ken Crawley - 632 k (2018)
-PJ Williams - 906 k (2018)
-Delvin Breaux - RFA
-Sterling Moore - UFA
-Justin Hardee - 555 k (2018)
-Arthur Maulet - 555 k (2018)
-Bradley Sylve - 480 k (2018)
-DeVante Harris - 630 k (2018)

S(7) - Either re-sign Vaccaro, sign a vet F.A., or draft a Safety. I'd be cool with bringing Rafael Bush back as a #4/#5 Safety. I could see Banjo getting cut, b/c his dead money hit is only 100 k. Hopefully Banjo takes a pay cut to stay.
-Kenny Vaccaro - UFA
-Marcus Williams - 1.418 mil (2020)
-Vonn Bell - 1.083 mil (2019)
-Rafael Bush - UFA
-Chris Banjo - 1.8 mil (2018)
-Rickey Jefferson - 480 k (2018)
-Mykkele Thompson - 480 k (2018)

2018 Dead Money
-Nick Fairley - 6.0 mil
-Jairus Byrd - 4.6 mil
-Adrian Peterson - 1.25 mil (got a 6th round draft pick though)
-Stephone Anthony - 971 k (got a 5th round draft pick though)

re: 2018 Saints Off-season Roster Mega Thread
Just added the Salary Cap numbers from OvertheCap.

A few guys that could potentially be cut in 2018 to give us some cap room...
-Fleener (8.0 mil) - 5.0 mil dead money hit (post-June 1st).
-Hill (2.833 mil) - 833 k dead money hit.
-Hooman (1.933 mil) - 333 k dead money hit. I think we end up cutting him.
-Strief (3.875 mil) - 1.1 mil dead money hit. Hopefully he takes a paycut, but cutting him will be easy due to his contract.
-Morstead (4.85 mil) - 700 k dead money hit. I assume we pay him.
-Kikaha (1.676 ml) - 522 k dead money hit. Hopefully he recovers well, b/c it's going to be an uphill battle for him to make the team.
-Stupar (2.215 mil) - 400 k dead money hit. I think he's the odd man out if we add another LB.
-Banjo (1.8 mil) - 100 k dead money hit. I assume we cut him based on his contract. He did play good on ST's, so who knows?

These are the only type of threads I wanna see from here on out.

Edit: (not being an arse or anything; you did solid in your report), but it would cool if you added the Salary Cap numbers to the OP. Would make your post a 10/10.

Wow! A lot to comment on, GMoney2600! Nice research, too. Let me just say I agree with almost everything you suggested, give or take. That’s great, because I think we can fill those holes with another good draft and a few good FA. And with 20 guys on IR, we have a lot of options there! A good problem to have!

I think we need another DE, a Rueben Foster type LB, a safety to replace Vaccaro, a OL to replace Kelenente, A receiving weapon either WE or TE who can be a #2 threat

So, basically, we have about $8M max once Brees resigns? Unless he decides to take a pay cut to benefit the rest of the team. Something that I would think is much more likely after Sunday than it was before...

re: 2018 Saints Off-season Roster Mega Thread
Isn't the new cap projected to be at 178 million?

If that's true we should have a bit of money to send out and backload contracts post-Brees.

Edit: Current is 167, projected IS 178. That's a potential 11 million more!

We should get relief from Fairleys contract too

We should be fricking absolved from that albatross.

I don't think Nick was malicious but damn it hurts giving someone 7 mil a year for nothing.

re: 2018 Saints Off-season Roster Mega Thread
If drew takes anywhere from 18 to 23 million a year I will call that a huge hometown discount.

We may be able to get Ansah for ~8 million a year.
Oakafor for ~3 million a year.

We need a LB and WR/TE

Graham or Brate should get the 8 million we are giving Fleener currently.

Banjo is staying because he's huge on ST.
Hooman will get cut.
Hill will stay to backup the new starting TE.
Morestead good grief im not sure he's worth almost 5 million a year at this point.

I think we try to sign Malcolm Butler.
I think we also try to sign Jarvis.

I think both will want too much. However, if we can get one of the two, it clears the way to draft a QB or WR in the first round.

Just added that. The year next to their name is the last year on their contract.

I say keep drafting these young players and start them early. Cut the overpaid veterans(or trade), and have money to extend Brees. The younger players are hungry to make a name for themselves, too. Plus, if they succeed, you have a valuable starter(like Lattimore and Kamara) under team control for 4 years with a 5th year team option. If they walk in FA after that, you’v already drafted their replacement, hopefully. I don’t see the need to pay a Kings ransom in FA to someone just looking to cash in. They rarely work out( Brees major exception.) There are cheaper options out there(Okafor, Ginn,Klein, etc.)

Pretty much. Drafting good players & hitting on bargain free agents is the best way to build up a legit roster in a short amount of time.

These are our best contracts. Lutz, Robertson, & Te'o are the only players that aren't on rookie deals. Ginn (4.5 mil this year) didn't even make the cut...
-Alvin Kamara - 878 k
-Mike Thomas - 1.396 mil
-Andrus Peat - 3.625 mil
-Ryan Ramczyk - 2.021 mil
-Will Lutz - 630 k
-Sheldon Rankins - 3.491 mil
-Tyeler Davison - 759 k
-David Onyemata - 766 k
-Trey Hendrickson - 755 k
-Craig Robertson - 2.0 mil
-Alex Anzalone - 826 k
-Manti Te'o - 2.8 mil
-Marshon Lattimore - 3.491 mil
-Ken Crawley - 632 k
-PJ Williams - 906 k
-Marcus Williams - 1.418 mil
-Vonn Bell - 1.083 mil

We don't get off the cap hook for Fairley's contract if he has a life threatening medical issue?

Maybe a little. We're going to have to take the brunt of it though.
