3 recent changes in 2018 cap #.

-Morstead's cap # was 4.85 mil. It's now 2.65 mil after the 5 year extension.

-Banjo's cap # was 1.8 mil. It's now 1.55 mil. Looks like Banjo took a pay-cut.

-Demario Davis' cap # was 4.077 mil. It's now 3.3 mil. I'm not sure if this is a mistake or not.

Didn't notice Banjo's, but on Davis OTC has him with a 4 year deal (last year being a dummy year) to spread the bonus, while spotrac still had him on a 3 year deal as of yesterday.

I was waiting for some confirmation one way or the other but I think this puts us around $10 mil under (not counting the rookie pool).

On a 2 year deal that's definitely enough to fit someone that may cost, say, $14 mil per, especially with one or two dummy year on the end.

I watched all of Sean's interview today at the Owners' meetings. After what I heard, I would bet my life that we draft a pass rusher or receiver at 27. He called both "needs" that must be filled. Seems happy with where this team is at, and I think he realizes that if we nail this draft we will be contending for a championship.

We have been overshdowed by bigger name signings, but the Saints have gotten noticeably better already this off season. Argubly our biggest need, slot corner, was filled by the highest rated slot corner in the league last year. Another huge area was athleticism at LB, and Davis fills that. Add those 2 with the return of Okafor, Klein, Breaux (maybe), Kikaha, and you can't tell me the defense won't be even better than it was last year.

April cannot come soon enough

Saints are meeting with Benny Cunningham...interesting - could be a decent RB3

Teams love to honestly give away what they are going to do before the draft

Overthecap has completely updated our current roster with all the F.A. signings. We have 76 total players as of now.

They have our cap space at 5.303 mil. I don't think that includes Fairley's 3.0 mil cap relief though.

Going into the draft...the only big holes to fill on paper are WR (especially if we don't retain Snead), & backup OG (Bushrod might be able to be used there though). It's nice to have a very solid roster going into the draft. FB is a hole as well, but I'm not really concerned about that.

We can definitely draft a QB, TE, DT, DE, LB, CB, or Safety for future use. I wouldn't call them needs for the 2018 season though. After the draft is over...our depth should be even better than it was last year.

Actually our depth is probably just as good as last year already & we still have the draft/low end F.A. to go.
QB - Lost Chase Daniel. Replaced him with Tom Savage.
RB - Same as last year.
FB - Lost Zach Line. Haven't replaced him yet.
WR - Lost Snead & Coleman. Haven't officially replaced them yet.
TE - Didn't lose anyone. Added Ben Watson to the group.
OL - Lost Kelemete & LeRibeus. Added Bushrod.
DT - Same as last year.
DE - Same as last year.
LB - Didn't lose anyone. Added Demario Davis.
CB - Didn't lose anyone. Added Patrick Robinson.
S - Lost Vaccaro & Rafael Bush. Added Kurt Coleman.

Our defense looks like an upgrade on paper (especially if Okafor plays well). Our offense is basically the same as far as starters go. We just need depth at WR & O-Line.

It does. They updated that about a week and a half ago (you can check by looking at the dead money; it was $6 mil and now is $3 mil).

But I'm pretty sure this still includes about a $2 mil hold for the effective rookie pool, putting us closer to $7-7.5 mil under.

Edit:
On our FA list, I don't consider a guy lost until they sign elsewhere, but I'd still list them as "Zach Line- Free Agent" for instance so we know they are still available to bring back.

Strief also isn't listed. I know you grabbed the list from nfl.com or somewhere, but they do miss important stuff like that.

On players:

Snead should be considered signed until signed to an offer sheet at the very least. Until that happens he literally can't leave us unless he sits out.

Vaccaro was our nickel so PRob replaced him.

So our current holes from last year are FB, 3rd (or 4th) receiver, backup T (Bushrod is our new Kelemete as a backup G/T), and backup G/C.

While the Oline backups are important, getting another receiver is clearly the most important thing left on that list.

Agreed. I think DE is probably the 3rd most important position, due to the uncertainty of Okafor. The only problem is that Sam Hubbard is the only viable option at 27. I really hope we can sign Robert Ayers to a 1 or 2 year deal. That should solidify the DE position for at least a year or 2.

I'm assuming that Snead ends up playing here in 2018. If we don't end up with Cameron Meredith(RFA)...I'm assuming we draft a WR.

We signed Bushrod, but I don't think it would be wise to depend solely on him as your backup option. It's great if he pans out, but I think you need to add an OG/OC in the draft.

As of right now...I'd be surprised if we didn't draft an OG/OC & a WR in the top 4 rounds. I actually think taking an OG/OC at #27 is the smart move, but this board will probably melt.

Zach Line- Free Agent

I'm surprised we haven't re-signed him yet. He's easily the best available option in free agency, so I'm not sure what the hold up is. He has to be league minimum or close to it.

The only thing I can think of is maybe CSP/Ireland like a FB in the draft (5th or 6th round). I think there are 2 good FB's in the draft.

There's no rush to sign a FB in FA. They'll wait to see if they draft one, otherwise they'll call up Line or Kuhn.

The rookie would be cheaper, and with a position that maybe plays 25% of the snaps and doesn't directly change field position (P) or give you points (K), there's no reason to rush and pay more than you have too.

We're probably one of the few teams that even used a FB that much last year. Some teams have just stopped carrying them.

Couple of updates on cap numbers.

Overthecap has Mauti's 2018 cap # at 720k. Spotrac has it at 630k. Not sure which one is correct, but it's not really a big deal.

Spotrac has listed Zach Line's contract. OTC still hasn't.

Line's 2018 cap # - 1.0 mil
Line's 2019 cap # - 1.2 mil

You have to be a pretty damn good FB to get anything above league minimum. Good for Line.

Cameron Meredith still hasn't been added by either site.

Solid video from PFF on the offseason:
LINK

They're a bit concerned about Okafor, Davis, and Robinson playing as well as they did last season (each had career years). They still consider us contenders. Give Strief a ton of props.

Overthecap has finally subtracted the 1.9 mil from Snead.

I'm not sure if the rookie pool is included in this number, but our cap space right now is 3.68 mil.

Besides maybe a random free agent or two...our roster looks set. Still have to cut like 5 guys to get to the max of 90 though.

I have our complete roster updated on the 1st page of this thread.
