I think Shaw’s most talented team was 1998. They were ranked #13 in the country by USA Today and had Derrick Joseph, Terrell Harris, Ronald Bellamy, Brandon Carey and Shyrone Carey was a freshman. Rocky Taulli was at Center and played for Tulane. Chris Joseph was at guard and broke the Shaw record for squatting 750 lbs. The bar was permanently bent even years later when I worked out in there.

Made it to the dome and would have beaten West Monroe if not for an awful, awful turnover that led to a TD right before half. Killed all the momentum in a game they were actually controlling.

They hung 66 on Carencro in the semis.

I was a Senior at Neville in '90. That Ruston team was legit. Maybe one of the best teams to ever suit up in LA football.

That team, along with '98 WM, has already acquired legendary status.

1997 Hammond High was loaded...lost to Curtis in semis. Went undefeated before that loss. Defensive backfield was an LSU cb, Notre Dame Safety and Notre Dame CB.

Greatest LHSAA teams to not win state
West Monroe 1999 was pretty stout.

They lost 20-14 to Evangel in the Dome.
Brock Berlin throw up a fluttering duck pass up for grabs in the end zone in the last minute of the game. An Evangel receiver, who must have been 6'5", out jumped the WM DB and scored the winning TD.

The WM DB was probably around 5'7-8".

The receiver was backup quarterback Brent Rawls who was a much better athlete than Berlin. Evangel was loaded and West Monroe was as well. Great game.

1977 Bonnabel with Tommy Wilcox, who had 348 yards in total offense in the StateChampionship game vs South Lafourche. Last SCG played at home field. Would have been riots had South Lafourche lost that night.

1999 Christian Life would’ve won if Stefan Lefors, who played at Louisville wouldn’t have gotten hurt. Michael Clayton had to move to QB and they lost toPort Barre in the semis.

1997

West Monroe beat Ruston in the dome in 1998. Beat Shaw in the dome in 1997.

Nope, ESJ won state beating Ehret along the way.

WM lost Tramissian Davis, star RB, in the semifinals against Ruston. He ended up on the Saints practice squad. Wish we could’ve seen him play against Evangel.

no New Iberia played st aug at home in 79 and Barbe Played ESJ at McNeese in 1980

SL was the Last team to win the title game in the highest classification on their OWN campus.... FWIW minden in 1980 was the last team to win one any title on their own campus.....

There wouldn't have been riots.. SL had won and lost titles before....in fact most has resigned themselves to the fact they were going to lose facing 4th and 20 something..

This is what I remember the most from him....the plowing through a line of scrimmage and dragging the next level with him. Didn't Kyle Richey play for McNeese as well, or was that before you got to Iota?

Notre Dame was always the dominate team from the parish, and could easily pull all the best athletes in, but Iota was the best 2A team in the state for those 3 years in a row.

correct. 1997 football season, graduating class of 98. I was on the Jesuit team that beat that awesome Shaw team to win district, but then traveled to West Monroe and got beaten handily.
