Greatest LHSAA teams to not win state
Brother Martin 1984. Undefeated and ranked 1 or 2 in the state going into the last regular season game.

Lost to Shaw and there was a 3 way tie in district. Brother Martin lost the tie breaker and the other 2 teams went to the playoffs and a top 5 Brother Martin stayed home.

1983 they and two other 9-1 teams that year were pretty much what got us the wildcard system

Ahh yes... I'm thinking the graduating year.

I know Jesuit was one of the teams and I guess Shaw was the other. I just remember Brother Martin couldn't lose by more than 8 but lost 20-8 on a stormy night.

Ouachita did win it all in 1989. When the old Richwood closed and combined with Ouachita when the new Ouachita High School opened up in 1987, Ouachita became a state power.

was on the sidelines..... That was the team that put shaw on the map for sure...... and fourcade did cross the line in one of the 5 best games i have seen.... I was 12 red pop the 3 semifinal teams had QBs that would play pro ball all 4 played in college... hebert SL, Wilcox, Mafhouz, and Bob Lane ...... and of course fourcade...

That's interesting. And of those five, only Robbie Mafhouz went to LSU, and ended up transferring out to Hammond. Tommy Wilcox went to AlaBama and became a defensive back.

That 1996 catholic team, in my opinion, tops them all. I don't know whjat they were ranked heading into their semifinal contest at West Monroe, but I do remember the entire Monroe,West Monroe area beaming all week with the anxiety of Catholic coming up to play a 2-5A caliber team to see how they matched up.

Back then 2-5A was one of the best districts in the entire nation.

The fact Catholic had to travel to west monroe to play that game is a perfect microcosm on why the LHSAA is retarded.

Number 1 in state? Check

Undefeated? Check

Number 3 in nation? Check

Have to go on the road to north la in the playoffs? check

the catholic leauge had the same number of teams in the quarterfinals 1990 - 1999 as did 2-5a..... the district did dominate the finals 90-90.. but the best in the nation....

What high school did you go to?

Church Point

Watching Jason run over people

This is what I remember the most from him....the plowing through a line of scrimmage and dragging the next level with him. Didn't Kyle Richey play for McNeese as well, or was that before you got to Iota?

Notre Dame was always the dominate team from the parish, and could easily pull all the best athletes in, but Iota was the best 2A team in the state for those 3 years in a row.

I believe the Catholic game in 96 vs west monroe was on youtube. It may still be there.

I was a Senior at Neville in '90. That Ruston team was legit. Maybe one of the best teams to ever suit up in LA football.

Cool. Y'all had a nice season this year as well. Thought y'all would go a bit further. The Iota/Church Point game this year was really good.

I think Kyle did play for McNeese. He's quite a bit older than me. His younger brother and I are the same age.

My nephew is a freshman this year so I actually followed the team this year. It was so promising to see them win 8 games after having such horrible seasons for so long.
