You’re 100% right.
I’m not saying they should be able to go shoot deer on your property.
I’m just saying it sucks for people that don’t get to experience the outdoors, and that there a lot of such people.

People have exchanged exploring the world for playing on their phones, and we’re all worse off for it.
Having a connection to the land changes people for the better IMO.
But maybe I shouldn’t bring my Wendell Berry inspired thoughts to the OB, or at least get a little better at expressing nuance.

How far is your place from public land?

That map doesn’t help your position.

You want to experience the outdoors? No problem, take a trip to Colorado. That’s nuts, and shitty.

How about this map? This is federal wildlife refuges open to the public in LA.

That doesn't include all the state run wildlife management areas he posted on this map

There's land open to the public in all parts of the state. And in the area where the trespasser was, there's probably a higher concentration of public land areas than anywhere else in LA.

I get it. The outdoors is so awesome that you base your entire life around it, and you don’t give a damn if a single poor kid ever gets a taste of it.

You're out of line, sir. You don't have a clue who you are talking to, or what you are talking about.

The number of hours and dollars that people on this board spend introducing kids to the outdoors cannot even be calculated.

No empathy at all for longing for the freedom people used to have to move about in the outdoors?

That’s harsh.

They have zero freedom to use someone else's private property...

No shite.
I do think it would be nice if private owners of land werent in general so jealous about use of their land. I understand where y’all are coming from, and much of it is justified, but it seems to me we’ve gone too far, are too dogmatic about this.

I mean y’all can’t even have a friendly discussion about the notion that, all things being equal, it would be nice if more people had more freedom and ability to enjoy the outdoors.
I realize people are shitheads now and would misuse the opportunity, and that there would be litigation, litter, and every other damn thing.
Literally all I said I’m the original post was that it sucks that people can’t just take a walk in the woods anymore.
Do you really have no sympathy for that sentiment?
Y’all act like I’m advocating a Communist revolution.

Hell Hat...that doesn't even include all the TVA land on the Tennessee River. If it's TVA land, it's public land.

Bottom line...there's plenty of public land to hunt on without trespassing.

My bad, I forgot this board was yalls private property on which groupthink is strictly enforced. I’m lucky I didn’t get shot for trespassing.

Did you mean to illustrate my point or was that just a happy accident?

Besides the amount of time and money that goes into that land, maintaining it and setting it up for hunting...

They are indeed jealous, because of those reasons. I’m not saying it’s not justified, I’m saying it sucks the world is this way.
