Add SMU’s Chad Morris to the list. He declined to interview.

What plan was orgeron?

He was Alleva's Plan A all along. Don't let him fool you.

One Les Miles was pretty low on the list too as I recall. Some of that had to do with the late notice Saban gave us though.

In their defense, I don't believe that. You don't pay Mullen 6 mil and lose Kelly to UCLA for 4.25. I think they were probably just feeling out candidates and couldn't contact Mullen until after the egg bowl.

Was told once Dan entertained the idea, Cohen let it be known they would go their separate ways.

Mullen didnt leave MSU for a simple 300k.

It is also why Mullen is going hard at MSU recruits.

I am calling BS on Chad Morris...his agent probably put that out there to raise his profile...plus, he may be holding out for A&M when Fisher turns them down.

last year, I believe Orgeron was Plan C...after Herman and Fisher...

Our problem is that the Alleva saw O as a legit Plan C, rather than E or F where he should have been.

Public plan E is generally actual plan K.

All due respect Boss,
I think Gruden was not Plan A, for real. Maybe the Volunteer fans thought if they talked it up, they could get Gruden, but as has been repeated so often, WHY? What good reason would there be for Jon Gruden who has a couple REALLY sweet gigs, leave those?

NFL, maybe, I could see that, but back to college where he'd have to be on the recruiting trail for weeks/months at a time, and on the hotseat from the moment of his arrival? I just don't get that. I just don't get the same sentiments from LSU fans over the last ten years. Gruden has a really good agent, it appears, who keeps his name out there in the media and by having folks post on college football social media sites.

Coach Cut. was likely a good shout for UT, but he's older than the rest, and there's very little heat at Duke for a football coach. All it takes is bowl eligibility, I'd wager.

After seeing Florida and Miss State competently handle their coaching searches this off season, I'm more baffled than ever about they way Alleva handled the hiring of Orgeron last season.

At least give them credit for having a Plan E. Alleva's strategy was:
Plan A: Jimbo
Plan B: Herman
Plan C: frick it

Tennessee will have to swallow some pride and hire a young up-and-comer. They should be looking at coordinators at this point.

Does the Lane Train still count as a young up-and-comer?

Mullen was a no-brainer hire...a former OC who had success at a lower tier school (no offense to MSU). That was an easy hire.

And Miss State hired an assistant coach...also an easy hire to make.
