Plan A: Gruden
Plan B: Schiano
Plan C: Cutcliff
Plan D: Gundy

Florida got to Plan C when Spurrier left...they whiffed on Mike Shanahan and Bob Stoops before settling on Ron Zook, who was widely unpopular and lasted on three seasons.

Most schools get their new coach from at worst Plan C.

I really hate that this is happening. The SEC needs a strong Tennessee to give Alabama a challenge every year...Bama/Saban owes part of their success to Tennessee being down. Their series was virtually tied before Saban took over...Saban has won 11 in a row.

Come on Vols, get your shite together!

Mullen was UF's plan D depending on the source. Kelly, Frost, Gundy, then Dan.

In their defense, I don't believe that. You don't pay Mullen 6 mil and lose Kelly to UCLA for 4.25. I think they were probably just feeling out candidates and couldn't contact Mullen until after the egg bowl.

Tennessee will have to swallow some pride and hire a young up-and-comer. They should be looking at coordinators at this point.

I bet Mullen was Plan B...I don't think Frost and Florida talked much, and I don't believe Gundy and Florida did much either.

I call BS on this. There was dialogue, how direct and obvious is the question. How coy Mullen was about Florida and how much his wife disliked Gainesville seems to much for me. He knew he was leaving before the Egg bowl. It was a classic case of a lame duck coach giving a half-arse effort.

Kelly was more concerned with fit than compensation. He has plenty of buyout money, so he wasn't for sale to the highest bidder. UF had to pay Mullen $6m because otherwise he would be at Tennessee or State. Thats just the market economics of his situation.
