If you read the full article it's pretty clear this guy isn't a true believer in the flat earth nuttiness. He tried to use gofundme to make his rocket and originally got like $31. So he went on a flat earth radio show and said he had been converted to flateartherism and that he would prove NASA a hoax. He got like $3000 from the listeners and used it to build his rocket.
I'm 99% sure the guy is just a regular screwball who has a death wish to go out in a blaze of glory. Hes in his 60s and is a limousine driver. Better blast off in a rocket than shoot up a casino.

I agree. But it is a distraction from the reality that the Earth is hollow and inhabited by our real alien overlords. Its part of a plot to convince the masses that there is too much CO2 in the environment. They need to lower it in order to complete re-population of the planet with their own kind.

He wanted to publish Byrd's journal detailing the encounter. The journal is now available all over the internet.
