Flat Earth Conspiracy Nut to Commit Suicide by Rocket

Per the WaPo and AP:

Seeking to prove that a conspiracy of astronauts fabricated the shape of the Earth, a California man intends to launch himself 1,800 feet high on Saturday in a rocket he built from scrap metal.
Assuming the 500-mph, mile-long flight through the Mojave Desert does not kill him, Mike Hughes told the Associated Press, his journey into the atmosflat will mark the first phase of his ambitious flat-Earth space program.
“I don’t believe in science,” said Hughes, whose main sponsor for the rocket is Research Flat Earth. “I know about aerodynamics and fluid dynamics and how things move through the air, about the certain size of rocket nozzles, and thrust. But that’s not science, that’s just a formula. There’s no difference between science and science fiction.”

Huh. Apparently Newton's laws were derived from ancient Hebrew holy texts.
Strong contender for a Darwin award.

What does he hope to accomplish?

I would guess forcing the government’s hand into stopping him so that he can claim government conspiracy to silence him.
The FAA isn’t going to let this assclown kill himself

You should ride with him to document the event.

If he’s so confident, why does he have “mad” in his website title?

A story I read was that he didn't start on this flat Earth silliness until he needed money to continue his project. He's simply using the kooks for their cash.

That dude looks nothing like Billy Bob Thornton.

Better yet, book a flight on a commercial airliner

Finally,
Someone is going to be able to put an end to this nonsense of us living on a ball.

I guess he wants to prove that there is no curvature of the earth and to warn ocean going vessels they could potentially sail right of the edge of the earth

shite take an elevator to the top of the Willis [Sears] tower.
