Have you ever walked out of a concert before it was over?

2 times stand out and the first one broke my heart:

- Cocteau Twins 1992 in Dallas. Liz can't sing a note to save her life live and the dolphin warbling was too much. One of my all time favorite bands and I couldn't make it through a concert I had looked forward to for years.

- Pink Martini with Nashville Symphony 2014. My God. A fun lively cocktail-music/exotica band that always found it's way into my playlists was RUINED for me by a bunch of over-the-hill pompos Portland liberals who sucked the joy out of their music with their own inflated sense of self-importance. We walked out with Steve Inskeep (yep the NPR guy) got up with them to sing along and belittle us some more. My wife turned to me and said 'can you feed me a few more drinks next time before you bring me to a concert like this?'

No, but a friend told me that he walked out of a Marshall Tucker Band show a couple years ago after about three songs. He said he had never done that in his life, but they were terrible (at least that night). And my friend was generally a fan of their music.

I saw Marshall Tucker at a fair a few years back. It was horrible and I'm a big fan of their music.

they would stop during each song and tell a story while the backing music quieted down >

A couple of times but not because the show was bad.

I left an Allman Bros/String Cheese show before the encore because the guy I was with had an early day the next day and was tired. And I was at a show where Freddy Jones Band was the opener and I was really there to see them not the headliner (can't even remember who it was). I stayed for part of the headliner's set and they were pretty good but I wanted to go.

Yes.

One thing that struck me as odd about that show was that SCI was the headliner. But in that venue I guess it makes sense.

yea those shows were great too. I was there.

SCI headlined the 2nd night, ABB headlined the first night. Chris Robinson played before both each day. 2 days!

Was my first time seeing both bands I think. It was excellent but I was a little disappointed ABB didn't play Whipping Post.

Yeah that's right...I remember now. I was there for the second one.

The other show I mentioned was at The Fillmore.

Only a couple of times. I had been stuck in a parking lot for 3 hours before after a concert in Atlanta, so we started walking out as the encore break started. Listened to the first song at the gate, and kept walking. Was back at the hotel in 30 minutes. Another time at a show here in Birmingham. My wife was 7 months pregnant, had to use the bathroom, and there was some bad malfunction in the ladies room. We drove home in 10 minutes. I checked the setlist later that night and was a little upset at a couple of encore songs I missed, but nothing major.

I know I have left many shows early over the years, for a bunch of different reasons..

The one arena concert I remember leaving early was GnR at the Assembly Center... I had enough... Granted, I wasn't really a fan of those use your illusion records... and could take only so much of Axl sitting at a piano..

As much as I love them, they're terrible live. Not sure why.

I've seen a couple of thousand live shows. Walked out of many early. Sometimes the band is sucking that night, sometimes the venue sucks and sometimes sex trumps live music. Last concert we left early was the Cult at the House of Blues Dallas. Damn, they were terrible that night. It was like they rolled out of bed and onto stage.

That was one that I should have walked out early on. Woefully bad.

My wife bought me tickets to Widespread Panic a few years back for my birthday. I've been to a lot of shows, but she had never been. She turned green from all the pot smoke and started throwing up in the bathroom, security tried to have her arrested because they thought she was on drugs, but she eventually was able to convince them that it was just the smell of all the pot that made her sick. We left about 30 minutes early.

A few...

String Cheese Incident around 2000. Buddy swore they were great, and I liked some of the bluegrass they did. Couldn't shake the feeling that Kang was just trying to sound like Trey on his stupid mandolin. When the lead guy started dancing around the stage with a jellyfish singing that dumb song, I was out.

Yonder Mountain String Band around 2002. I actually really liked them at the time, but the lead guy was such a damn douchebag on stage, I left. I don't mind some stage banter, but nobody paid you to stand up there and pontificate for 5 minutes between each song. Think that guy left the band. Haven't paid attention to them since then.

Red Hot Chili Peppers in 2000. Foo Fighters opened for them and they were awesome. I was embarrassed for the Peppers about 3 songs into their set. People were leaving in droves. We toughed it out for 5 or 6 songs and called it a night. Just awful.

Steve Earle a few years ago. He's just not very good since getting clean. Made it almost to the end.

Have left a few Widespread Panic shows during the encore for various reasons. Too many drugs, Red Beans, friends on too many drugs, etc. Left one of their 2002 shows with George McConnell on guitar at setbreak. That was the last time I've seen them.
