If Arkansas realizes that Petrino-style results are probably what they should be shooting for (an exciting offense, win a lot of games, but probably not too many, if any, championships), then Leach is probably a great choice. He's an offensive savant, seems to realize that he does need to pay some attention to having a decent defense, and recruited Texas for 10 years.

The only knocks against him would be his people skills (he has none) and he does like to drink--but I don't think he owns a motorcycle.

JMO, but if I'm Arkansas, I wait a year to hire a new HC, way too many big time openings to compete with, not to mention some that have yet to be official

It all depends on who Arkansas wants. UF and Tennessee could hire coaches in the next week that are not even on Arkansas’
Radar. If they want Kiffin they need to get him now . Ole miss is not even close to being as good of a job as Arkansas right now .

If I were them I'd go after Pelini or Leach

This. We need a slam dunk recruiter just to get us to a level playing field, much less able to compete.

Seriously, are you in the market this year?

I ask because it would seem difficult to get an AD in place and give them time to make the hire.

Does this mean the next AD will just be a figurehead for the donors?

I don't dislike Pelini but he burned up his chances I think. Nebraska admin just happened to be even more retarded than him. Hell, he got blown out then went to the press conference and threw the gauntlet down asking to be fired. Instead he got a raise no one wants that headcase around running the program.

Mike Leach has never been known as a great recruiter, but he did pull a number top 30/40 classes at TxTech. Fayetteville is a much more desirable location than Lubbock.

Arky is a better program, it’s in the SEC, he knows Texas well, plus he’ll be able to lock down Arkansas. I realize the state doesn’t produce a ton of talent, but it does have some.

I’d assume Leach could produce top 20-25 classes. I realize that’s going to be behind a number of other SEC & SECW schools, but who could do better? Plus he could do some damage if he’s getting the right guys for his system.

Gus could win with Bert’s players from the start while he recruited his own guys.

Any spread HC at UA is going to struggle for two to three years getting spread personnel there.

Why aren't more people on the Lane train? I think you could get him at a reasonable price. Non compete clause big buyout on his part. Small buy out on our part and an amazing incentive laden contract

The leverage you could have with Kiffin would be incredible... The university could easily protect itself and pay him far lower than what Gus would bring.

Freshwater is essentially Bobby 2.0 from an On-field perspective... Off the field Bobby was a True snake and scumbag,.. And although I think Lane is possibly a bit untrustworthy, I don't think he's the devious a-hole Bobby is and was. Most of Kiffin stuff is very lighthearted... He's a young, single, cocky multi-millionaire who wants bang 21 yr old sorority girls... Who the frick wouldn't want that? The media attention he would bring to Arkansas would also be worth the price of admission alone... Just think about the Ark vs Bama week present conferences... We don't beat them anyway with Saban, so why not make it entertaining... It would be strait WWF stuff.

And oh yeah, he'd also be a very good fit at the University... Not only was he partially raised there, I think Arkansas is just big enough, yet not too big of a job for him. He seems to do his worst as the HC at really really glamorous job... Of course he also on the semi-deth penalty at USC with quite possibly the most incompetent athletic director of my lifetime in Pat Haden... But nevertheless he failed.

Give him a four year deal for 3 million a year with lots of incentives and an iron clad, double decker character clause and let it ride out for a couple years... Hell it can't be worse than it is now... And who knows, he might actually get us some high recruiting classes and win more than 1 or 2 conference games per year.

The more I think about IT Kiffen would be a good hire. If he failed, or bolted for another job in 2 years at least we’d like be in a better position talent wise.

Going from Bret Bielema to Bo Pelini would probably give me ulcers. I would be fine with Kiffin or the pirate.

Kiffin is also a guy long wouldn't of hired but I could see the boosters now being able to push through.

This is my thought as well. Firing Long really opened up the options for us on who we can consider.

IIRC they have fired their last 3 coaches less than 2 years removed from an undefeated season. Gus was literally a loss away from the hot seat last week. It's honestly hard to quantify how irrational and volatile that fanbase can be.

wut

Tubs' undefeated season was in 2004, his tenure ended after 4 additional seasons when he went 5-7 in 2008.

Chizik lost the team entirely, having gone 4-4 in conference in 2011 before going 0-8 in conference in 2012.

Auburn can be volatile and fickle just like any big program, but the coach volatility argument is ridiculously overblown. Had Gus finished this year 8-4, going 0-8 against our rivals over a 4 year span, we probably STILL wouldn't have fired him.

I don't hate Gus.

I think he would further divide the state.

I like Kiffin as a play caller, and I think he could unite a state. He could win more games, get better players and most likely piss a lot of people off at other schools. He could Jack Sparrow this flagship.
