First of all, Jesus obviously wasn't opposed to the death penalty, he did it himself
Jesus hated welfare, he healed all the bums so they had to get a job
We also know that Jesus disliked middle easterners, he flipped over their tables and hung out with the Romans all the time so he probably wouldn't mind the bombing
Jesus was a Trump supporter

The vow of poverty is a lie
Diocesan priests don't take a vow of poverty. Only priests in certain orders (such as the Franciscans) take vows of poverty.
They typically live in the rectory. They can build up a nice nest egg over time if they live frugally and invest well, or if they were ordained later in life and already had some money.
A priest in the Diocese of Biloxi makes $985 a month. Not a lot, but with free food and housing and no kids, they're poor only by OT standards.

There is nothing wrong with being wealthy. There is something seriously wrong with a preacher having a multi-million dollar house and private jets. That goes completely against what Jesus taught. The wealthy also have an obligation to help those in need. I believe God gives people access to wealth to see what they're going to do with it. If they hoarde it, they aren't following Jesus. If God doesn't give us wealth, he gives us a unique talent or ability. If we don't use it to help others, we aren't living right

Let me guess...you hate JOOOS too?
Self hating I'm not, no.
But I do hate those overlooking one of the worst crimes in religious recent history to call out this putz.

I call it nondenominational denominational.

All I saw was them having the evacuated people stand up and they prayed for them.
Osteen and his church has to be aware of the optics considering they are on TV and have been in the spotlight recently. To anyone that attends church, it's easy to see that this is the end of the service where they take up the church offering (completely voluntary for members and visitors) and pray for something before singing a song.
But for someone unaffiliated with the church, they don't know what's going on. They just see the call for money from the people in the crowd and then spotlighting the Houston refugees for a prayer that calls on God to help them.
If you don't know any better, it comes across as "give us money; god save these folks."

Osteen is a wolf in sheep's clothing. He runs a family business. Handed to him by his dad. His wife also suddenly becomes a pastor. He will get his eventually and it won't be pretty.
I bet Joel Osteen and his wife has such a degenerate sex lifestyle behind scenes. Probably do crazy shite with swingers.

Joel Osteen is the most self-centered and arrogant piece of trash in America today. That's all I got.

Joel Osteen is not a biblical preacher. He is a happiness dealer at best disguised as a church. Anyone who thinks they are going to a church is being fooled. He shouldn't be confused with anyone of faith and doesn't represent any denomination of faith.

The singer at the end is good. His last album went gold in the first week and finished the year at double myrrh.

Joel Osteen does not represent American Protestantism. He represents crooked evangelism and does not follow the teachings of Jesus.
He's a health and wealth kind of preacher, which always makes me default to them not understanding the life of Jesus very well.

Funny thing is, Olsteen's dad was a hellfire and brimstone preacher back in the day.
Joel will write a book about the tribulations of the Houston flood, equating himself to Noah, and make another 5 million.

He represents the hoax that American Protestantism is.
No - he represents a narrow denomination (that has both black and white churches, I might add) that combines Christianity and cold capitalism - the whole, "God wants you to be wealthy" - ignoring all those warnings in the Bible about the corrupting influence of wealth.
This is kind of on the opposite end of the spectrum of Black Liberation Theology - which is a perverse marriage of black nationalism, revolutionary Marxism and notionally Christianity.
But, Osteen is one of those guys for whom "religion" is a racket, not a calling.

If dumbasses want to continue to give money to this clown then I don't feel real sorry for them.
Posted on 9/3/17 at 8:53 pm to sgallo3
I mean they don't have to give if they don't want to, some might want to

by this logic, if god can "give" someone wealth, then sees they arent using it correctly, wouldnt he just as easily be able to "take" that wealth back, rather than letting that person live the rest of their life in luxury

Need context. Could have been collecting money to donate to flood victims
