How so? We have a political party in this country that is knighting to preserve the Judeo-Christian principles this country was founded on.

These hacks maimed, terrorized, raped, and murdered millions of indigenous and enslaved (indentured) people in the name of Christianity, backed by horrible and false race superiority science.

Jesus Christ literally, in His own words, is as the furthest thing from a capitalist (I'm a capitalist personally), and is more in line with the hippie, environmentalist that the right hates.

But they consistently find pieces from the old testament to justify their social, economic and political goals.

Again, not too dissimilar from the religion this board currently loaths

They Jesus I know is closer to a socialist than a capitalist. Which gospel is Osteen pulling his text from?

It doesn't matter what you call people like Joel Osteen, Benny Hinn... any of them. They're terrible human beings who use the name of Christ to make fortunes for themselves. Followers of this jackass are complete fools. But saying he represents Protestantism is the same as saying the American Catholic Church supports pedophilia. Wait... that one is true

Have to be honest with ourselves though....those people that belong to that church know what that guy is about. They know the life he leads. If he wasn't the way he is, he wouldn't have a $50 million former nba arena as a church and a $10 million home. To anyone that was familiar with that church previously, I bet there was zero surprise he was passing those buckets. Gotta maintain.

Prosperity gospel is not a Biblical text. It's a heresy.

Fair point, but can we not ignore how the dirty hands of American Protestantism?. From its genesis, it used race superiority politics to push many of its aims. It aligned itself with imperialism and colonialism, and conquering and dominating indigenous people/groups. Its behind the theft of resources and people from colonialized nations. Its behind the largest slaughters of ethnic groups in the 20th century (Germany and Belgium). And it has been weaved into our collective economic principles of capitalism (for good and bad).

Yet there is nothing remotely close to this found in the teachings of JC. Nothing.

Osteen is a wolf in sheep's clothing. He runs a family business. Handed to him by his dad. His wife also suddenly becomes a pastor. He will get his eventually and it won't be pretty.

Yikes. What an elementary understanding of Jesus, "the right", hate, and capitalism. Well done.

He certainly doesn't preach the bible.
Rainbow and sunshine, Jesus loves you, stay positive and trust God.

It's what people want to hear.
He's just supplying what the sheep need.

Did I not just laud capitalism? I love it, even I know its aims don't entirely mesh with the teachings of JC. Thats all I'm saying.

The religious right consistently votes for candidates whose politics don't align with the teachings of JC. Its not hard to comprehend.

Thats why I said they use it as conduit for their cultural, economic and political goals.

Again, not too dissimilar from the religion they hate.

Wow... all this time I thought Columbus, Cortes, and Pizarro were Catholics. Silly me. Catholics didn't lead the Crusades and the Spanish Inqusition? They didn't sell indulgences to line the pockets of their Priests and to put up pretty statues? And silly me again for thinking Catholics sent Jesuits to America and India to "christianize" those brutal natives. I've always said that if Jesus walked into a Catholic Church, he'd tear down the sacred relics, sell them as scrap metal, and give the money to the poor

Yup... except his dad had the church located in a poorer part of town for outreach. Joel... not so much.

You are 100% right and I don't disagree with you at all. Im just using protestantism because thats the sect Osteen originates from and because its the sect our country was founded on

My problem with mega churches is that they play shitty contemporary Christian music and the people wear shorts and bowling shirts

Why even go to church if you aren't dressed properly? God wouldn't let you into heaven with a bowling shirt on

The alternative is progressives. Corporate welfare, drone strikes, partial birth abortion, death penalty...if you want someone diametrically opposed to the teachings of Jesus, look no further than the current Democrats.

At least Huckabee likes welfare and the Freedom Caucus types oppose our policy of willy nilly bombing.

ETA: And free market types want 1%ers to earn it and keep it instead of getting it through bailouts.

I think it just comes down to the fact that there are some terrible people in this world. It doesn't matter if they're Christian (Catholic, Protestant, or Orthodox), Muslim, Jewish... anything. I will agree with you on one thing though...you see more wealthy Protestant preachers than you do wealthy priests. All religions have problems, but it's because of the flawed nature of humans. The doctrine in all religions is manipulated to benefit the "worshiper."

Every priest I've ever met drove a fancy car. I don't know where they live but it probably ain't too bad

The vow of poverty is a lie

What's wrong with being successful? Jesus said blessed are the poor in spirit, not poor in pocket
