Another "Free Speech Rally" is set for Boston this weekend. The Mayor has the right idea and is urging counter-protesters to stay home.

quote:

The mayor said he has spoken with the Southern Poverty Law Center for guidance on how to handle events involving white supremacists.

“They say that interacting with these groups just gives them a platform to spread their message of hate,” said Walsh. “They recommend that people should not confront these rallies. So we’re urging everyone to stay away from the Common.”

For once I find myself in agreement with the SPLC.

Along with this there will be around 500 cops in and around the event, something Charlottesville completely failed at.

Nope.

They were there. They were ready. They were ordered by the instigating sociopath of a mayor to stand down.

"Free Speech Rally"

This article seems to infer that the free speech rally is a white supremacists rally but doesn't provide any facts to support that. In fact the rally organizer says they condemn white supremacists and are not affiliated in any way.

Are we at a point where supporters of free speech are automatically assumed to be a white hate group? If so, think about what that says about the current state of America and political discourse in this country.

Way to read the article.

Who is this Boston Free Speech Coalition? Evil, neo-Nazi, racist, KKK-loving, minority haters?

Hardly, according to the Boston Globe: LINK

quote:

John Medlar, the 23-year-old spokesman, said he and other young men began communicating on the Internet to express alarm over what they viewed as support for protesters who set fires, damaged property, and started fights following the University of California Berkeley’s decision to invite controversial conservative figures to speak.

“We were alarmed that people were OK with fringe anarchists burning down a campus and driving [out] speakers,’’ Medlar said.

Can people stop going to rallies and instead protest what they don't agree with by actually doing something productive?

I've been in Boston all week and they are making all the street vendors in Boston Commons shut down along with the swan boats and street musicians. They are closing roads and bridges in and around the park starting around 10am Sat morning. What's sad is that the park is widely used by families and Individuals as a place to relax and unwind. Most people are pissed that their park is off limits unless you are there to stir up trouble.

Hope I'm wrong, but municipal cops are poorly equipped to deal with a big crowd, due to sheer numbers.
If things can get unruly due to a lack of presence.
