How different is Plano compared to Dallas?
Specifically, the hustle and bustle of Big D gives me indigestion. If one would live and work in Plano, would it be a bit less hectic?

still fairly hectic but less so than living in Dallas proper. good schools, HOAs, chains everywhere.

Isn't that where they built a $75 million dollar high school football field?

I actually worked in a boring section of Plano and lived in Midtown Dallas for about a year. That reverse traffic commute was cool and living at Mockingbird station was cool.

Not much difference. I have lived in both. Really, you can't tell when Plano begins or ends...same with Dallas....it's like one HUGE metropolis. I would pick Plano if I were to choose. Really depends on the schools if u have little ones.

Very good place to raise a family.
However, if it weren't for the city logos on the traffic lights, I wouldn't know where one Dallas suburb ended and another began.

it is all the exact same fam.
if you must live in the city/suburbs just live in Highland Park, University Park, or Preston Hollow, or a nicer part of FW because those people keep to themselves more.
best case scenario would be living in the country on some land.

Frisco. You want to be in Frisco.
If you want a little more sedate and some land, try Flower Mound.

I lived in Collin County, but within the city limits of Dallas. Worked downtown Dallas. Couldn't tell much difference at all. Unfortunately I was taxed by the City of Dallas, County County and Plano School District.

I live pretty much at the center of everything in North Dallas. If your job allows you to go the opposite of traffic on the PGBT/DNT it will literally allow you to go to work on "your time."
I have to travel south to Las Colinas everyday on the PGBT and if I don't leave before 7am, it's completely frickey.
T-Mobile and ATT foundries are located from me going opposite, so whenever I have to do a customer visit or meeting, I can always leave whenever.
Plano has a lot around it. You have the Shops @ Legacy, Shops at Willow Bend, and plenty of places to go drink, bowl a ball, play golf, etc.
If your job is anything Techy the two major corridors are building up faster than you can blink.

If you're just talking about suburbs, if you find a nice one, they're mostly similar.
Probably also depends on whether you're married and/or have kids. If you're more of a family man, the Plano area may be the place for you.

Cheaper to live in Plano. I lived there for 9 years...moved to Houston 10 years ago. I am sure it has changed, as there was still land to develop when I moved. Not sure how traffic is these days, but it had become very dense with homesites.

Plano is getting busier and busier. All the corporate relos. is making traffic around the area very congested. Collin County R/E market is extremely competitive right now. Plano is divided by the Bush tollway but anything south in Dallas you get trashier areas interspersed by pockets of expensive developments. Plano is nicer although you get some of that on the east side over by the 75. West Plano is a great place to live and the Legacy West development is making it very desirable. Plano schools are excellent but getting bigger and bigger. Dallas schools are shite.

Plano if you've given up on life.
Dallas if you're still living.
Dallas if you're still living.

Plano is higher income. Houses start looking nicer, businesses look cleaner and newer. It's the better place to live

You know what you call a cowboy from Plano? Nothing special , just a Plano cowboy?

If I was moving to the burbs it would be...
1. McKinney
2. Frisco
In that order.
There nothing wrong with Plano, but it's oversaturated.
Richardson is another option possibly.

Take a look at the Lakewood area of Dallas.

If you're trying to start a family, all the northern Dallas suburbs are fairly similar. Good schools, similar (chain) restaurants, malls, etc.
If you are not married or do not have kids, I would not move to those areas. As a current 20-something living in Plano for the summer, I do not spend any time here except to sleep and visit with family. Downtown still hasn't reached anywhere near the congestion levels of other major cities. All the 'fun' things to do in Dallas are downtown and not in suburbia land. Klyde Warren, Dallas Museum of Art, Nasher, Perot, Deep Ellum, AAC, Uptown, etc. are all downtown. Nothing in the suburbs matches any of those things, except maybe Legacy.
You could not pay me to live in the suburbs as an unmarried individual.
