Planning the trip to Houston for BYU game...I'm looking for suggestions for food & bars...

I've never been there so very unfamiliar with the city. I've looked at tripadvisor but I don't care about museums and Texas history...I want to drink, eat and watch LSU beat the mormon out of BYU.
Is there an area of town near the stadium with some decent bar options? Where's the best steak in Houston? Is there a central place LSU fans are planning to tailgate? Any suggestions are welcome...except from you freaking trollers.

Little Woodrow's for pre game. Huge sports bar that's pretty great. You can hop around mid/uptown from there by taking the Metro. It can also take you to the stadium just make sure you hop on the bastard at least 2 hours before kickoff or you're not going to be able to get on. Learned that from the Wisconsin game

You can also expect a long wait to take the train back to your hotel. Unless you know a secret to get around the crowd and onto the train in front of the crowd

Vic and Anthony's steak across from Minute Maid on Texas AV. Also Magnolia is on Texas. Texas intersects Main and a ton of bars, pubs, etc on Main. Take light rail back to hotel or parking. That's if you want to stay downtown.

Only way you'll take Amtrak is if you are on the Sunset Limited between NOLA and Los Angeles 3 days a week.
It's called MetroRail... be prepared for a long long long wait after the game

Ended up staying next to the stadium 2nd time around because it was hell getting back downtown after Wisconsin game.

I dine out in Houston a lot. Last week I had the best steak I've had anywhere at Killens in Pearland. It's a very highly rated restaurant, and Pearland is south of the city - about 15 miles south of the stadium.

And if you want even better BBQ just outside of Houston (about a 30 minute drive southeast): Killen's in Pearland. Hands down the best BBQ in the Houston area, maybe even in the entire state. I know a lot of people will say Franklin's in Austin, but Killen's is right up there IMO. I would recommend going Sunday for lunch though. It opens at 11AM, but people will begin lining up before 10AM. You must get the bread pudding, it's easily the best I've ever had
ETA: It's definitely worth the drive and wait. Also, they typically have a keg of beer and serve to those in line for a "donation"

uptown
You're going to be disappointed if you get on the Metrorail and think you're going to end up in Uptown.

If it's the one on Main Street it's fine. It's a pretty busy area since it's in the Med Center. You're a couple of blocks from the closest Metro Stop. Though there really isn't much going on there outside hospitals. The bars and restaurants you're going to want to visit are mostly going to be in downtown and midtown.
