That would shock me. Sober supposedly. And never seemed depressed. He had reached revered rock god status.

Rumors are his wife was concerned and asked a friend to check on him -- police called too... found in bathroom with something tied around his neck.

Between nirvana, aic and stp... just brutal with the end of the singers from all the historically iconic bands of that scene. Vedder is the only one left 2 decades later.

All that's left is Vedder.

Nobody sang like that. Period. Hell Cornell couldn't sing like that anymore.

Suicide shocks a lot of people.

There was an episode of House where one of the characters kills himself, and House spends the entire show trying to unravel the truth as to why he did it. At the end, no one knew.

The episode was praised by many suicide and mental health agencies for it's realistic portrayal of these people's hidden struggles.

Kind of scary if you think about it, because it makes me wonder how many of my friends who seem fine are actually in a big struggle.

True. If suicide it is a big "Richard Cory" type situation coming to life.

This is up there with Dimebag as far as musician deaths hitting me hard. I was a big fan of Soundgarden since Badmotorfinger. Sucks I never got to see him.

Just saw Soundgarden less than 2 weeks ago at Beasley St. Music Fest. They brought the house down and Cornell was his usual self! Sad day indeed...

Yeah this SUCKS!!! Suicide angle is surprising to me, although you just never know. Damn.

Currently working in Denver and they were coming here next week. Not sure I would've made it to the show but I saw them three times in the early 90's and man was he badass on stage. Badmotorfinger is one of my all-time favorites.

RIP.
