I've had 4 and 2 nerve blocks in the past 2 years. Only thing that worked was the first nerve block and it lasted about 8 months. Nothing else has worked.

Have you tried any other alternative like herb?

I get that it's not legal but it's not here either. I'm lucky that my "guy" is like a chemist. He makes a concentrate for me and he made Rick Simpson oil which is supposed to be a "cancer" cure.

My point being that the natural pain reliever helps me more than all the pills did.

Weed isn't natural, it's grown in labs by the cartel and treated with chemicals

I would imagine some will commit suicide to escape the pain. I considered that years ago when no one believed I was really in pain and final test diagnosed a cervical nerve root compression. Surgery cured it, thank God.

That's horrible to hear Isabelle, but I am glad you didn't go through with it.

I said I would bump this once I had an appointment.
I just saw my pain management Dr and he is referring me to Dr Ioppolo for an SI joint fusion on both sides. He thinks the majority of my pain is coming from there and not the two bulging discs L3-L5.
I still have an appointment scheduled for Wednesday with Dr Scrantz at Neuromedical Center.
Will update again once I see him.

Good luck man. I'm almost 10 years in. Constant burning pain. Nothing redicular, but it keeps me up at night plenty. Degenerative discs, 3 of them bulging or ruptured, another one up high herniated. Well over 10 epidurals, pain pump test, stimulator test and discectemy. Nothing. I'm sure there are other procedures I'm forgetting other than accupuncture, oh trigger point. All for nothing. Been taking pain meds for almost 10 years. Doc now just writes me a script and pats me on my head. Just try to stay active, stretching and exercise. Focus on the good stuff. Good luck man I hope you find something that works.

I've heard horror stories about SI joint fusion. get fully educated on it and gather multiple opinions before going there.

bump again
Had another appointment this morning. Going to do a nerve ablation in my SI joints to see if I can get some relief until I go through with the SI joint fusion later in the year.
Dr Ioppolo and Dr Scrantz both agree that I need to do the fusion. but at least there is now a light at the end of the tunnel.

Sucks to hear, but I have heard a lot of success stories with SI fusion. Good luck to you, man!

That's reassuring. Thanks.
Doc's nurse told me how brutal of a surgery it is and had me a little worried but hopefully it's all worth it in the end.

There are a number of other therapies. Pain is a symptom, the cause should be treated. Opiates should be reserved for cancer and acute pain (sparingly).

Bizarre this response got so many downvotes. Opiates absolutely should only be reserved for acute pain (post operative pain from surgery, kidney stones, acute injuries, etc.).

"Chronic pain" disorders like lower back/neck pain and psychiatric pain disorders like fibromyalgia are WAY over treated with opiates. These should be treated with a multimodal approach of anti inflammatories, non opiates analgesics, neuropathic pain medications, and even anti depressants in some cases.

When I see patients come in on Fentanyl patches for fibromyalgia I just about lose my mind. High dose strong opioids as an outpatient should only be used in cases of cancer pain and end of life care. It's ridiculous the over use of opiates in our healthcare systems. But what do you expect when your reimbursement is based on patient satisfaction scores?

I like wine and weed. I love valium and xanex but both are too addictive. Coke is good too but expensive and addictive. Pain pills mess with my stomach too much.

Sadly I've most just learned to live with the pain. Its always there but you aim for the times when uts not as bad.

My dad has degenerative spinal arthritis. He gets by with spinal injections and aspirin. He has a prescription for tramadol that he stopped taking because it made him feel crazy, and one for hydrocodone that he never filled. He is often in a good bit of pain but he soldiers on.

Going to Colorado over the summer with the family. I'll be curious to see if any of the medical pot stuff will help fix my First Bite Syndrome. The doctors have no solution for me. It makes eating excruciating. I was not going to take medication for the rest of my life especially after reading the side effects.
