Y'all must have birds stacked like cordwood to have Will Primos on your place during Turkey Season.
We've got a pretty good place

That's awesome man so what's the story how did this come about?
He is an old friend. My first job in High School was making turkey calls for him in 1986.

This is about the coolest thing I've seen in a while. I've always loved Will. What a cool deal. Congrats on the great memories.

I won't give out any results of the hunt. But I will tell you a few things I learned, or was reminded of:
1) He is an absolute gentleman
2) He loves to turkey hunt. Kind of reminds me of someone else. I got a chance to meet Bill Dance once. And he loves to fish. Like, when the cameras stop and the crew takes a lunch break, Bill Dance is still fishing. When he books a hotel for a business meeting, he will get up in the morning and find a place to chunk a spinner bait for 15 mins before the meeting starts. Primos is the same way. He loves to turkey hunt.
3) He drives his Polaris EV really, really slow. Several times I got out and walked faster than he was driving
4) He is very conservative with his setups. When we heard a turkey respond, he would basically sit down and call to him. He doesn't try to get as close before he calls as I would have thought.
5) He will basically sit down wherever is right for the camera, even if there's no tree there. Look at my picture of our setup. He's not in front of a tree. He's sitting on a stool in the wide open. And so is his camera. He cuts a few limbs to stick beside the camera, and that's about it. Those guys rely on their camo more than their setup.
6) He calls pretty aggressive. And he gobbles a good bit. I have hunted with old school turkey hunters who yelp really soft, and then shut up as soon as the gobbler responds. I am sure that works. But that's not how he does it.
7) We did not stage, or reshoot anything. There's no: "Sit down and let me video you calling so we can edit that into the show." Or: "yelp, and then act like you hear him respond". I see that in other shows a lot. We didn't do any of that.
8) The camera is a MAJOR handicap. Not just in setting up, but in coordinating a shot. I saw a jake coming in (I'm about 30 yds behind them just watching) and I could tell the camera is following the jake. Then a longbeard pops up. But the camera is on the jake. And it's hard to switch back without getting seen. Another time the camera was on a longbeard but Will wasn't. And it's illegal to use radio to communicate and coordinate. So camera man and shooter have to actually whisper. And the camera man has a headset on. It's a real challenge. My guess is that for every turkey you see killed on video, there are two or three that could have been killed if the camera wasn't there.
9) It was a blast and I'd do it again in a heartbeat

That had to be a great day.

Hell yeah, man. That sounds like a great time. I love to turkey hunt, but I don't know shite about it. I can't call for anything. That's why I typically bring along my uncle. He's getting old though and I need to learn how to call in the big ones

That is really cool. I might should know, but what show/film will this be on?
The fake edit is pretty much why I don't watch hunting shows. Buck Mcneally is straight up comical. I don't know how for so long he was able to sell his shows to keep the bills paid. Hell, he may still be finding suckers to pay.

Hunting shows are, by and large, horrible. It is almost like they are designed for non hunters as opposed to seasoned hunters. I can't stand the cheesy fake camaraderie. And the cut in shots of the finger on the trigger....that sort of stuff makes my skin crawl.
How many videos of turkeys coming to decoys can people really watch? I think WP will be the first to admit that for the genre to survive, they are going to have to change their angle. It has to be more about telling a story. Conservation, culture, stewardship, education, etc.
Hour after hour of body counts gets old in a hurry.

That's awesome, obviously you're turkey hunting in the pics. Did y'all also quail hunt with the film crew? That would be an exciting day

I hate it. Something I've started to also hate is the videos of the guy creeping in a field with a fan to shoot the turkey in the back as he spooks when the hunter pops up to shoot him.

Or how about creeping in a field to kill a turkey with a judge a 4 ft. What a bunch of shut heads
