@darrenrovell
Remind me why Leonard Fournette's family had to shut down its clothing line and LaVar Ball isn't compromising his sons eligibility?

All this publicity shite was precalculated

I bet they didn't do anything legally wrong, they had to check themselves before they decided to make themselves such a big deal

Because one was a clothing line capitalizing directly on LFs popularity and one is a parent who is a bit eccentric.

Who was it that "shut down" LF's family? The NCAA or LSU? LSU's compliance department is EXTREMELY conservative, and often takes steps way above and beyond what other schools do when interpreting the rules.

It's more than just an eccentric parent.

I was not aware he was selling shirts... I thought this was just referring to his paid appearances on ESPN etc.

ETA: their website even says "Athletic apparel inspired by the Ball Brothers"

Wooow

You're right they don't. But when you make BBB branded blue and gold shirts, it's blatantly obvious you are using Lonzo Ball's likeness to sell shirts.

With that said, I don't think that is something that should be illegal. Just like I didn't have an issue when Fournette's folks first had the buga shirts.

From their website:

Rovell really is asking a good question. How has this not been shut down by the NCAA yet?

Yeah bc that defense would hold up in court

Which the NCAA doesn't even have so they could easily argue they are the same thing. Which they are

If Darren Rovell wants to look into eligibility holes he could just show the story ESPN ran last week where the younger kid beat Lonzo at NBA2k then went and picked up a stack of cash.

Didn't some baseball players just lose their eligibility for playing fantasy football?

Total bullshite rule. While I understand creating a clothing line could lead to the peddling of backdoor money, it's their right to be young entrepreneurs. Not paying a young man to play for your university is one thing. Restraining their right to earn money outside of athletics is down right criminal.
