What do you mean by "deal" Have you searched the book values? True Car for the new, NADA used car guide for the used. It's easy. use the internet just like you did to post this question.

The fact that you can get one 3 years older for half the price is a bit troubling.

If these are my only choices, I would pay half the value and get the 2013.

So what's a good SUV of comparable size. I like Toyota but the Rav4 is too small and 4Runner too expensive.

Unless there are major changes, I'd go 2013 for $12K.

I'll never buy a new car again, it makes zero financial sense unless you're loaded or put huge money down. That new Sorento will depreciate to about $18k the minute you drive it off the lot and you'll be upside down well over half of your loan term. Even buying a Sorento less than a year old would make better sense than buying a brand new one.

So many variables it's not even funny. The used car could have those miles on the ENGINE and have some fricked up exterior or bumper falling off. Car could have never gotten an oil change. Etc

None of that matters unless you plan to get rid of it that quickly. I prefer the peace of mind with a new vehicle, plus getting exactly what I want. I know it's not the most financially sound decision, but vehicles are a hobby of mine. So my thinking doesn't follow what's most economical.
