Was the Betsy DeVos hearing really a trainwreck?

I may have to go back and watch it.

No.
But Al Franken is a mess.

I think the bear shooting part was the highlight of the trainwreck. She did get raked over the coals and didn't look particularly qualified. But I only watched the highlights.

No, it just wasn't very good either. That woman is an idiot. She will do fine at the Dept. of Ed.

It was definitely partisan... Their was plenty of vitriol from the demo's which is expected as education is one of their holy grails and they have no inclination to just give it to a washington outsider without a fight.

She was really bad IMO, and clearly isn't qualified, but you are probably asking the wrong board for this.

Warren made herself look like a vindictive count for sure.
Warren would ask 3-4 leading / setup questions and then make some bullshite obvious statement and then pat herself on the back.
The "gotcha" politics on both sides is sickening. frick all of them.

I watched most of it - she is by far the weakest of the nominees that I have seen (didn't seen Carson's). But Franken and Pocahontas were unbearingly awful. Am at the moment watching the Price hearing and Franken is showing his arse again.
btw - Price is kicking arse

She was a trainwreck, but the actual hearing was a farce. It was pretty clear Alexander and the Republicans knew she wasn't qualified given the cover they gave her by only allowing one round of questions.
10 of the 12 Republicans on the committee have received campaign contributions from her though, so there you go.

Yes, it was. I watched a few 10 minute, uninterrupted segments and she whiffed on a quite a few questions.
Partisan politics are taking the stage with the GOP guy clearly protecting what is a weak nominee and the Dems looking for blood.

I just read a synopsis of the hearing. Some inexcusable gaffes (e.g., IDEA and funding). Even easy questions (e.g., same level of accountability for public, private, and charter) should couldn't give a direct answer. I mean those weren't even specific and complex policy details.

I've only watched the highlights. I cringed a couple times. She is not quick on her feet intellectually. She seemed unprepared for some issues.
The worst to me was not knowing that the IDEA is a federal law that local schools are required to follow. I get that is sort of a niche issue, but this is supposed to be her niche.
Not a good look. She may have trouble getting confirmed.

Long story short she's not qualified by any stretch of the imagination. Everyone knew it republevins are hiding her from democrats having a field day with it.
End of the day we end up with an unqualified secretary of education and everything with Trump so far looks like politics as usual.

Yes. Every American should demand she be removed as the nominee to head the Dept of Education.

Doesn't matter.
She will be confirmed.
The democrats can bitch all they want but they have Democrat Harry Reid to thank for the Nuclear Option.
