There used to always be a security guard on duty at the CVS in Westmoreland. The CVS on the corner of Gardere and Burbank doesn't have a guard if that tells you what CVS thinks of the Government street area.

WAFB has not updated the story at all

WBRZ has this added:

quote:

During the search, Baton Rouge Firefighters arrived and put out a fire inside a dumpster on the property. Moments later, police searched the dumpster for evidence

Nothing on the suspect

has there been any chatter/ideas circulating about creating a Mid-City security division.

Highland Park for example in Dallas. Or even the private security in the French Quarter? I know those are much more valuable areas dollar-wise than Mid-City BR but the idea seems like it should get some professional attention for analysis.
Love the area but this has really shaken me as a family-man looking to move back to the area after a decade away.

The only way it gets better is if people who care about the area stay or come back. That said, I've lived here nearly my whole life and never had a single problem. Not one. I moved into Jefferson place from 2009 to 2011, my car was broken into three times. It's mostly a matter of perception. I feel midcity is for the most the most part just as safe as old goodwood and webb.

Lived there for a couple years in 06-08. I want to move back. But a BRPD division allocated to the area and funded by business and residential property tax may work to actually reduce crime and comfort potential residents. Put it to a vote!

I don't understand why more has not been released. We have a possible carjacker roaming an area with popular restaurants and that's all we get? Is there more to this story?

That could probably apply to the one in BR and the one in Greenville, MS. Monroe's isn't exactly in a stellar location either.

My hunch tells me these are all committed by the same person or group and they're trying to link them together and quietly track the person down. But I agree, this is the 2nd incident in 2 months where the gun has been fired at a victim and at least the 5th where a gun was pointed at someone in or around their vehicle during a robbery.

More than likely "they" were there before you. Shame on you for deciding to live in Mid-City and then complain about "those people" coming into your area.
