To all of you who helped search and spread the word thanks...

Had lots of dogs over the years, with lots of crazy stuff happening - this day still haunts me...

I'm a pretty hard person but this one shook me to my core.....

That whole situation still makes my heart skip a beat when I take my dogs out to hunt and I lose track of one for a minute.

RIP ole griz, wherever you are

We lost whole pack of walkers in 1 lick a few years back. It was foggy and the deer crossed the blacktop. A 18 wheeler loaded down with logs topped a hill the same time the dogs crossed. BAM! all 4 killed at once. All we could do was go take the collars off them.

today's drone technology could have done wonders that day.

I remember 20 years ago one of my best squirrel dogs was killed by a rattlesnake. Bit right in the chest.

Similar story with a better ending.

Guy I lease from in Dulac told me I could hunt his blind around Thanksgiving but told me I had to look for his dog. He's a 4yr old Weimaraner that he lost sometime during the hunt and left that day without ever finding it. I thought it was odd that he didn't give everything he had to search for that dog that day, but o well. Several days later on I think day 6 of the "search", a Facebook post was made that was found alive near a marina in Dularge. I pulled up google maps and took some measurements, and he was found nearly 7 miles from where he went missing. The following day it got down in the low 30s and I'm afraid that he wouldn't have made It through the night.

Man, what a heartbreaking story.

But, when you think about the good life you gave that dog, that dog must have lived more in that short time than any dog that lives 25 years cooped up in some yard in the city. I always think that's the best way to honor a dog that's gone - to adopt a new pup and give it a shot at an outdoor life, and save it from being stuck in some tiny yard for its whole life, with the only time it gets to go out are on visits to the vet.

That was right when I started posting here. Even remember the wife asking about him every day. Sorry bro.
RIP Grizz

Damn that doesn't seem like 3 years ago. Losing a dog, whether by death or any other way, is one of the worst feelings in the world. They really are family and I care more about my 2 labs than I do about the majority of people.

We drove down from Huntsville to go meet my MIL at the hospital and I drove real slow through that area when I was on the interstate...just in case. I remember this too. Ole Grizz...I sure hope he's warm somewhere...or romping in the land over the rainbow bridge!
