Not at all. But drunk in any religion or belief's place of worship (Christian, Hindu, Islam, Buddhist, Scientology) is pretty low-rent to me.

Give me a break. I don't go sloshed. It's usually at midnight mass when half the church is in their cups anyway.

I love pretending like I'm all pious when I'm hanging out with my parents. My wife gives me shite on how I should feel guilty about it but I'm just making my delusional parents feel good about how they raised me. No harm in that IMO

I do the same. My wife puts up a Nativity scene in our house. I don't care. It is tradition to me. I'm an atheist, but I am not trying to convert anyone. I guess it just doesn't bother me. Live and let live.

I would imagine the adult ones don't even mention their belief and participate in whatever needed because they appreciate their family and respect their beliefs

Yup. I love Christmas. Love the decorations, the trees, the lights, the music, family, all that shite.

Will probably have to attend a short service with the g/f and her family but it's not really a big deal.

Christmas rocks. I love it. Best time of the year. And as an atheist I don't have to feel bad about focusing on other holiday traditions instead of Jesus.

How much of modern day Christmas is really "religious"?

Basically none of it. Christians wouldn't give 2 shits about Christmas if it weren't for the secular aspects of it. It'd just be another "holy day of obligation" that 70% of them would ignore.

Yep. Atheists enjoy christmas every bit as much as christians except we don't feel the need to post "Don't forget the REAL reason for the season everybody!!" on facebook to feel better about ourselves

My family doesn't know I'm an atheist. It would be selfish of me to tell them. May seem like the noble thing to do but really it would only cause them pain and not telling them isn't hurting my way of life so there's no inner tribulation or anything.

Also, I still enjoy Christmas and other holidays and don't hate religion. A time for families to come together is a good thing. The overall message of religion to do good things for people and to do the right thing is needed in our society IMO.

Most people without personality disorders try to get along with their family wherever possible. We also love our loved ones and don't attack them on every point where we think they are wrong - that type of behavior is more of a message board habit.

Anyway, like others have mentioned, Christmas isn't really an overly religious thing in the way it is practiced. If you actually were in the presence of Jesus I imagine he'd be horrified by the way his beliefs are now used to justify a lot of commercialism. I doubt he would actually snatch the expensive toys out of children's hands but he wouldn't love the present holiday as a whole.

Thoughts on doing lines of Coke in the church bathroom to power through midnight mass?

I'm an atheist but I still love Christmas. My wife is not an atheist but she could care less if we get a tree. I always insist that we do (and we don't have young children). I have a set of atheist ornaments I hang along with the regular ones. Love all the Christmas songs on the radio, love the Christmas specials on TV, and every other year or so I force my wife and kid to go see Trans-Siberian Orchestra at the arena. Each year I try to get them to go see The Nutcracker but they won't go. Christmas doesn't have to be real or have a real meaning - it's still fun.
