I want to get a boykin, but I don't know any good breeders in the Baton Rouge area. Are there any good breeders in the south Louisiana? Any Boykin owners on this board? I want a retriever, but I have a small yard and the dog will be inside most of the time. I feel like a Boykin would be the best breed for what i'm looking for.

Don't think there are any. Several in TX, 1 just north of Texarkana (where I got mine from) and 1 in Shreveport but I don't know if they're still active.

Several OB posters have boykins and can chime in with where they got theirs. If you want more info on the one in Texarkana, e-mail me at thelastcoco @ gmail and I'll give you their contact info.

Mine came from Cullman, AL if you're willing to go that far.

Mine is my first Boykin and he's been a great one. Retrieves bird and trails deer like a champ, and a super sweet dog. He's a large Boykin, weighs about 40 with long legs

I have a Boykin that is about 6 months old now. He has been a great dog so far. Mine came from a breeder here in Huntsville Alabama named Dr. Gregg Able. Brandywine Creek Boykins is another top notch breeder. If you are getting a dog that will be your companion for 13 or 14 years having to travel to pick it up is not really a big deal. But if you can find one close to home that is nice also.

Research books, articles , and published work by Pam O. Kadlec

She is the premier authority on Boykins

Here's a start ... LINK

If you want a proven , solid bloodline, chances are you'll have to go out of state . Good friend of mine bought his male from SC and his female from AL

I got mine in Hallsville, Tx. Anderson Kennnels. I love them. They are great dogs, they also need to be worked a lot. They have tons of energy.

You're going to be on a waiting list for a pup with good genetics. I just got a pup from a guy in Gladewater, TX but he isn't a breeder per se. the people at Texas Trace near Houston and R&D in Houston were tremendously helpful in helping me locate a puppy and would recommend you contact them. Anderson and Brandywine are top notch too but they may have a waiting list in the neighborhood of 6 months to a year. They're tough dogs to find and there's a lot of breeders to be wary of. It's a fairly new breed so extra caution is advised when looking at blood lines because inbreeding is common...

I know a real good one in GA.....and another in mobile. Any good LBD breeder will have a waiting list.

I have a 3 year old male - if you know mean look at FB.

I have owned and trained labs, chessies and GSPs. winning field trials with all 3. All great breeds but none have captivated our home like and LBD...
and yes a 35lb(which is big for them) around the house, camp, truck, ATV and of course pirogue is a dream.

we are breeding ours soon. but I am pretty sure the owner of the bitch has 5 pups spoken for and i have 2 spoken for.

Got mine in '05 in Houston, I think it was the place w Trace in the name.

Got her as a house pet, but she has hunted every living thing inside and outside. All the moles now live in my neighbors yards, and I know when any living thing moves on my side of the neighborhood.

One of the guys on my lease got his Boykin from a breeder in MS, not exactly sure where though. I know he singled that one out as supposedly one of the better breeders though and drove over from Dallas to get the dog.
